Driving home tonight, I had a set of familiar headlights get in my rear view mirror and figured I was up for some fun. He trailed behind me on some surface streets going to a freeway onramp and we both gunned it on the onramp as we entered the onramp...both of us hit the gas at the same time. I was ahead and he wasnt able to make up any ground. I still didnt know what I was up against at that point so I cut it off at 75 and we both merged into traffic.

I stayed in the right lane and he got into the left. We both stayed around 75 and I let up a little to let him pass so that I could see what he was driving. It was a Firebird Ws6 with some pretty wide tires and big exhaust tips...I have no idea what he was running under the hood. Anyway, I merged over to get behind him and we kind of went through traffic at a steady pace waiting for things to open up. He decided to take a 270+ degree exit ramp pretty fast so I followed and stayed with him.

I got the first good idea he had some mods on his car when he downshifted going into the exit ramp and flames came out both sides of his exhaust. It was pretty da m n cool...kinda reminded me of the batmobile. :)

Anyway we pull through the exit ramp onto a secondary freeway and he hits it first (he was still in front at this point...we had free run of the inner lane but the outer lane had traffic so there was no chance to try to pass). He gets the jump and then I hit it and run about even...I might have pulled a little, but not much. He lets off the gas as we're coming up to a red light and I pull even and give him a wave.

We both work around a truck in the middle lane and end up at the light lined up. He's in the right lane, I'm in the middle. The road is a 3 lane highway that merges to 2 about 1/4 mile up the road. I couldnt ask for a better setup. He's sitting with his nose about 2 ft in front of mine. I hold my rpms at about 1500 and I can hear his exhaust, which is pretty loud. I'm not very sure he took me very seriously at this point as he gave me a look that seemed to say, "see ya!"

Anyway, the light changes and we both get good launches, but I gained a slight advantage so we're just even. Throughout first we're pretty much even until the end of the gear when I get about 2 ft on him. At this point he's at my front wheel well. I hit second cleanly and pull a little bit until he's at my door. Towards the end of second he starts to gain on me (which suprised the hell out of me) so I look over to see him pull a foot or 2 until he's back at my front wheel well...I probably had a pretty shocked look on my face! I grab third and start to pull back my advantage and by the time I'm at 85 he's back at my door and starting to fade.

At that point he was running out of room so he eases off and I take the victory. He pulled behind and keeps his distance, finally giving me some respect. I open the sunroof and give him a wave as I slow down and make a u-turn...I had long since passed my exit to follow this guy, hoping to get a good head-to-head with him. It was definitely worth it.

I don't know what he had under his hood, but I'll say this...his car was stronger than the last 2 C5's I've run against. Definitely the best and closest straight -line run I've had so far...I was pumped all the way home.

:buttrock That is an awesome story. It is great hearing about Imports killing muscle cars and it is even better hearing about BMWs killing muscle cars (and BMWs beating any kind of car). I'm new to this board and am a young student in Canada. I'm just working on an e21 320i right now, which satisfies my need to own a BMW.
