How does the MB S Coupe compare to the 8 Series?

I like the E31 more. Compared to the 90's SL, I think the 8 Series is more of a true 'grand tourer' especially the 850CSi with the 6spd and near 400hp V12. This is only speculation though as I've never been able to drive one. :(

I've driven a '98 SL500 though and it felt very solid. How is that '02 SL? I think DCX did a great with that as it's more appealing to me than the new 6.

The 02' SL500 rocks, I've only lost one street race, well, except for that cop that I raced, but he let me go.

I'm kind of shying away from the 12s, mainly because of the lack of parts and experience available for repairing them. I'm leaning towards the 8 Series, but htey're hard to find with low miles, most over 80k. Unlike the S, you can find them with incredibly low miles. An 8 will definitely end up in my collection as well as a few others.

You can drive mine when I get it, I let everyone drive my cars, I even let one of my buddies 16 yo drive my SL after having his license for two weeks!
