Anyone doing it? I've been thinking about getting some.

Not sure what you mean. Do you want to wear protective gloves while applying waxes/polishes/protectants, or those microfiber gloves you can use for interior detailing?

FWIW, I wore an old pair of cycling gloves last weekend while I used my PC orbital to polish and wax the car. The padded leather palms made the polishing step a little more comfortable, but the leather dye came off on my hands when they became wet.

I often wear latex rubber gloves when cleaning up the wheels, etc, to keep the brake dust crap out from under my nails, etc...

i'd wear latex gloves while washing, and microfiber ones while polishing/doing the interior. I have accrilic nails and the polish and dirt that gets under them is a bitch to remove. Especially brake dust.

Plus I bet some chemicals like the wheel cleaners could take the polish off your nails, as well.... :dunno

one reason why I dont' use harsh wheel cleaners. But yeah, my nails get thrashed after a hard day detailing.

I have a box of disposable latex gloves that I use when doing repairs or maintenance on dirty/greasy areas of the car.

I prefer the powderless latex or vinyl gloves for car work - the powder dries my hands out and gets all over the place.

I tend not to wear gloves for most detailing jobs because I don't want to lose that sensitivity. I do wear gloves when applying Leatherique. The Pristine Clean tends to make my fingertips peel a couple of days after I use it.

I'm going to agree with GP here. I can't stand gloves for most jobs (detailing or not) because they kill the sensitivity....but I **always** wear latex gloves while applying tire shine. Keeps that damn stuff from getting all over my hands.

I've come to the conclusion that dry hands are just a part of detailing.

Costco has excellent prices on a 2pk of latex glove boxes -- 100 gloves per box IIRC.

Yeah, I always use hand lotion after a detail. I'm getting to the point now that I'm about to go out and buy a paraffin wax machine for my hands to get the moisture back. One thing I like about the microfiber gloves is that it keeps the wax/polish from drying out your hands when you apply it, and you still have some feel. Plus, I rest assure knowing that there is no risk of scratching with them on. I'll pick up some latex gloves to use at least on the wheels, that’s where my hands get really bad.
