Ok, so my car was keyed really bad, so i took on the task of repainting the doors. Now, the paint that i got was an EXACT factory match, i tried it on many different spots, etc etc.

However, when i did the doors and applied the clearcoat it looked the same... for about two days... After I did the final sanding and used the rubbing compound to shine it up, the paint appears WAY darker than the factory paint, but ONLY at night. in daylight, you cant tell the difference.

Now I know I should have blended the paint, but this is my first big paint job and I didnt want to take the chance of making it look worse. Are there any paint experts or professional painters that could tell me why this is or a way to fix it? Either way... different color paint is better than my doors saying "DONT PARK HERE" ... lol

Thank you so much!

Probally a couple of things - it's either 1) UV fade on your original paint so it's lighter than the factory spec, 2) the clearcoat isn't the same so it cures to a different hue or 3) your 90 didn't have clearcoat - it's single stage paint. Give it another 30 days for the paint to fully cure and you'll have a better idea of what it looks like.

agreed with the paint fading. just because it's factory paint, doesn't mean it will match. you almost always have to add a lighter shade to match aftermarket paint jobs. also, clear coat is extremely hard to match. that's why you can see the difference in color at night. it might fade out after awhile but i wouldn't count on it. Clear coats tend to fade darker. oh yeah, 3 of my relatives are body repair techs so i do have some credibility.:D

Thanks for the replies...
I was just a little confused as to why it looks different only at night

because honestly.... in the day , you have to look REAL close to tell the difference at all.

thanks again
