At the DC solo2 nationals this past weekend, I decided to weigh the car. Damn, I was in for a shock. Here is what I have on the car that I think would add weight:

a) all options except PDC (although the NAV screen was removed to replace something else) ... six-spd. So, full power seats, heated, cold weather, sunroof, etc.

b) 19" SSR GT3's

c) 275/30/19 rear michelin pilot sports and 245/35/19 front michelin pilot sports (pumped up to 41 psi front and 37 psi rear.)

d) Brembo BBK

e) JL stealthboxes E46

f) JL 250/1 amplifier

g) The car was weighed with 3/4 tank of gas.

h) Complete SS system, SS headers, race pipe, xpipe, and Eisenmann 83 mm race exhaust .... Sways, strut bar, M3 rear trunk mat and front floor mats :stickoutt ... 8 layers of zaino ;) ... clear bra, rear trunk lid dynamatted (not much, just enough to keep it from rattling), etc.

Guess how much the car weighed without me in it?

3485 lbs

Add me into the equation and it was 3652 lbs    ... DAYUM ... that is one heavy car ...

Has anyone else weighed the car? I am 99.9% sure that those scales used are VERY accurate since this was a Nationals SCCA tour. Because people are a stickler for rules and like to protest. :)

the friggin' mustang GT/cobra weighed less than me ... I was probably one of the heaviest cars there ...

DAMN ... I thought I could strip 200 lbs and be at 3200 lbs pretty easily ... but, I don't know, it will be REALLY hard to get the car to 3200 lbs and maintain daily driveability :(

How big is the E46 M3 gas tank?

How much do you think your ICE weighs in at?

Prince --

The ICE cannot weigh that much. I would say 25 lbs, max. The curb weight says 3415 with 175 lb driver and full tank of gas. Hence, I thought, easily, I would be below 3500 lbs WITH ME. I did not think options added hundreds of pounds! :(

JMWeb has his car down to 3180 without driver... and it's still a daily driver... sorta.

The biggest question is ... how did you do at the nationals... with the heavy car?

c'mon kev :) I kicked ass ... hehe, j/k ... on street tires with Z06's, C5's, and E46's on R-comps ;) ... I got my a$$ kicked. I did what I intended to accomplish. I did not finish last in ASP. That's all I was shooting for at the moment. I think that is the best I could do with street tires. The guy I beat was an mroadster on rcomps. I think FTD was a 62-63 seconds. It was a pretty good course. The thing that hurts this car though was the 3 slaloms they incorporated ... even with sways, the weight was more pronounced through slaloms.

I am looking at getting SSR comps now with Victo700's. I am about 4 seconds behind the E46 M3 guy that is fast in the CCA region. So, SSR comps and 700's might give me the ability to be competitive.

I will contact jmweb to see what he did to lose all of that weight. If I could get the car to 3340 lbs WITH driver -- that would be awesome. :buttrock

Sways will help the car turn-in, but it will reduce steady-state grip and make the car dance in bumpy curves. Properly matched dampers are the way to go for SCCA.

Are external reservior shocks legal for street prep?

My car is approaching the limit for daily driveability.
Dont get me wrong, I LOVE MY RECAROS, but there is nothing like stock ADJUSTABLE seats for 30min + rides and heavy traffic. Nonetheless, my car is daily driven and is always in the 3110 < 3120 < 3160 lbs range depending how much gas i have.
------------
Approximate savings
BBK saves 12lbs over stock
Ligthweight battery saves 25lbs
Trunk mat and mobility another 20 lbs
Race seats save 51lbs - brackets are heavy
Removal of rear seats saves 50 lbs
SSR Comps + new SO3s save 12 lbs (stock tires weighed at 17,000 miles)
Clutch and Flywheel saves 10lbs
Arm rest saves 2 lbs
Euro Headers save 7.25 lbs
SS Race Pipe saves .5 lbs

Total: 189.75 lbs

The next significant area for weight savings, which is next on my mod list, includes CF door panels (CSL)

Hope this helps :D
