SIB 23 01 04 Service Action: Change the Pin Assignment for the SMG Hydraulic Control Unit Relay

E46 M3 with the S54 Engine from the start of production through 3/31/04.

Certain M3 vehicles,equipped with the SMG transmission,could experience premature failure of the hydraulic control unit relay.If this should occur,the system would be incapable of building up the required hydraulic pressure necessary to perform shifting.The fault lamp in the instrument cluster would be illuminated indicating system failure.

Change the pin assignment of the SMG hydraulic control unit relay by swapping the wires within the relay connector. Replace the hydraulic control unit relay.
