I met another forum member today who drove his father's gorgeous 1996 850Ci. I took some pictures of the car and put them up on my web site. If anyone's interested, they are found here:

yes they do, but very rare. That's why the V12 850 manual tranny can be swapped into the 750il making it a V12 manual sedan cruiser :D I think someone here has a stick in their 7 series.

That one is Titled in Germany as an M8. The 850CSi in Europe was supposedly sold with M8 as part of the model description on the title. I don't have a Euro CSI so I can't swear to it.

M claims the 850CSi as one of their children.

http://www.bmw.com/generic/com/en/fascination/bmwm/index.html

(BMW M automobiles/M Classics)

If it were done today, the M8 prototype would have been the M8 "Concept" vehicle and the 850CSi would have been the M8 production car. Times have changed.

Yeah! Those pics are from Marcus an my second Homepage. The 850CSi is Titled M8 in Germany, that is correct. The car is made by ///M-GmbH so there´s nothing wrong with that. I know it doesn´t stand up to the "real" M8, but well...

Btw: See U later, 911 !
Hope you enjoyed the movies... If anyone want´s to join us in September... There are empty spaces left, and I will take my 8-series on the road...

I'd really really love to own an 8, but I don't want to spend 5 figures a year to maintain it.

Still, that M850csi and Zeemax 8 give me "special feelings."

TerryY
09-21-2004, 09:51 PM
I wouldn't want to spend 5 figures a year to maintain one either!! So I try to not blow up my motor which is the only way I could think of to get to 5 figures.

Lets see what I have spent in the last year and a half.

Tires $1200 Goodyear F1--should last more than a year

Bilstien Struts and shocks $800 or so (stock units worn out). Add H&R lowering springs and K-Mac camber plates and it comes to about $2000 to $2200 all aligned---Should last more than a year

3.64 differential to replace stock $700 installed, should last forever.

Sway bars $900-yet to be installed should be about $400 more installation cost. Another forever.

Strut tower brace--$400+ should arrive next week DIY install.

Rear wheel bearing $70 and installed it myself right after purchase.

All Filters and oil changes $150 max for a year and a half of service.

Call it $5000 for a year and a half and most of it is for play toys!!

I could get it into 5 figures with either a supercharger or a 6 speed conversion but both of those are too long term to add to the list.

This is for a '95 840 with 135,000 miles.

That is why they are expensive-Just like a girlfriend, they need Jewelry :)

My wife has decided to call mine my Mistress.

I'm with Terry.....

The trick with owning an 8, either an 840 or 850, is to find one that is enthusiast owned, with LOTS of records. This goes without saying on all "fun" cars, but I said it anyhow.

In the last year I have spent more on my two 8's than I have on my other two Bimmers, but not by much. The shocks and springs for my M3 were more than those for the e31, the e30ic "had to have" that hardtop, I'm glad I bought the Motorsport strut brace for the M3 while it was ONLY $500, etc. etc. etc. The bulk of the dough went for optional stuff on all the cars; not mandatory repairs.

If you WANT to spend $$$ on one, by all means! Just be aware that after it has been sorted out and the preventative stuff completed, your outlay will be for gas 'cuz they are so damn fun to drive!

I've been looking for an E30 ///M also! I saw a cherry one up here - it was black, and it literally had my jaw dropped, they look so damn cool! I'd be nice to collect one from every generation some day... ;) :D My 328 is turning into a street monster soon, then I'll work on THE COLLECTION.

They are hard to find. I currently have a 2001 750iL black/black. I love the M73 V-12, and there are at least three guys in the 7 series section of this forum that have put a 6 speed behind it. Personally, I like it as an automatic.

But I'd like to have the 850CSi 6-Speed in black/black. I've been looking, but I can't find one anywhere for a reasonable price. This guy want's $60,000 which is a bit more than I think it's worth... 850 CSi link (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?rdpage=thumb&car_id=174830538&dealer_id=55661064&car_year=1993&make=BMW&distance=0&lang=en&max_price=&model=850CSI&end_year=2006&min_price=&certified=&address=98052&search_type=both&advanced=&start_year=1981&isp=y&cardist=2478)

Anybody know any other places to look? Are there any Alpina's imported into the States yet?

TerryY
01-18-2005, 10:03 AM
850 CSi prices are running in the 50's and 60's. After all there are only 225 of them so many of the owners have learned to ignore KBB's commodity pricing.

Alpina is a Manufacturer and re-VINs their cars from the BMW serial numbers.
As an Alpina they are technically not importable to the US because there is no equivalent US version.

That said, there is a "Rumor" that a single B12 5.7 Coupe MAY have just made it in legally. But then again it may have come in under a "Show and Display" importation.
I have not seen pictures or read the story of how it came to be here yet.

Hmmm yes. There are a few rumored Alpina B12 7's floating around the states. I know Alpina cars can be brought over. Anything can if the correct avenues are taken. I was just hoping an 8 would be here, and be for sale by any chance. :rolleyes Slim I know. :)

I guess the main thing I want is the V-12 6-speed arrangement. I prefer to stay away from the M70 engine as the M73 that I have in my 7 is quite trustworthy. An S70 would be perfect, but I guess I'll just have to take what I can get. The only problem is I haven't seen any V-12 6-speeds other than the two 850CSi's for sale on autotrader. :( And I don't think the yellow one is real based on the asking price of the black one I posted previously.... Ferrari Yellow CSi (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?rdpage=thumb&car_id=172970489&dealer_id=626163&car_year=1994&make=BMW&distance=0&lang=en&max_price=&model=850CSI&end_year=2006&min_price=&certified=&address=98052&search_type=both&advanced=&start_year=1981&isp=y&cardist=2401)

Ooo, you were right about the yellow 850 Terry, it's listed on autotrader twice. Once as an 850CSi as posted above and again under the 850i listing with different pictures as seen Here (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?rdpage=thumb&car_id=172740788&dealer_id=626163&car_year=1992&make=BMW&distance=0&lang=en&max_price=&model=850I&end_year=2006&min_price=&certified=&address=98052&search_type=both&advanced=&start_year=1981&isp=y&cardist=2401#top)

I don't think they're really trying to scam anybody, but the advertising on the other posting is certainly misleading. It's a clean car, but not worth that much to me. I'm going to look for a red or black car. Preferably Black.

Although that blue is looking mighty fine as well.... :confused

TerryY
01-21-2005, 10:10 AM
The fact that it has been listed with several VIN numbers including a real CSi VIN (WBS) does not reassure me. Honesty seems to have a very small place in some of these dealers vocabulary (I think only on the sign out front in some cases).

Talk about gorgeous. The 850 is my dream car.... I lust after one so badly, they're just so incredibly sexy. Did you guys catch the one that Dinero drives in the movie 'the Score'?

>sigh<

What a great car. Too bad BMW killed it.

What was frustraiting as hell was finding a 850i on a website, absolutely nothing wrong with it, except it was LHD (which I cant import here). Car sold for $2500USD, very quickly :(

Did you guys know that when you shut the door of an 850 the window rolls down a bit, then back up to seal against the weatherstripping better?

E36 3 series does that too.

alot of doors on coupes do as they often dont have full window frames attached to the door.

The window drop when you lift the door handle and rise after the door is closed saves breaking a lot of glass + wear and tear on the window tracks.
That big of swept area makes a lot of air pressure in the car. Saves eardrums too :)

The 8 is a true coupe. It has no B Pillar as support.

Stanford had it up on E-bay. At $55,666 it didn't make reserve.

The $55k bid was from a current '97 850ci owner. So $60k would probably be in reason for a fairly quick sale. For $69k they may have it for a while.

Yeah, it was Stanford European. They always have some really nice cars, but some stay there for a long time, and some good deals sell quickly. An 80's porsche 911 turbo went for $35k, while a Lamborghini Diablo has been there forever, not sure on the price though.

Don't let that happen to you...
try to imagine firing up your 850
putting it in drive,
cranking up your favorite cd,
roll up the tinted windows,
open up the sunroof,
reach over and kiss your fine lady,
sit back,
rest your left foot,
cruise to your destination in comfort, speed, and style...

Feel better now :D

WELL SAID..only its me in the passenger seat...since the wifey conquered the E31 as her daily driver.

Yep... Our Z4s do it too. I have absolutely NO whistling noises from my windows.

*New to BimmerForums, love this place* I have now driven five E31 (91 850i 4spd - 91 850i 4spd - 92 850i 4spd - 93 850Ci 4spd) BMWs, however the most fun E31 I drove was the 1991 SIX SPEED with ATC turned OFF! Tacked at about 4k RPM, the clutch drops out and the thing would just sit on it's rear end and burn-out. Driving the E31 and E38 V12's by BMW is just amazing. www.FreemanMotor.com are the gent's I get to drive these monsters through. Gotta' love the rare 8.

This website is the best, love to see all the 8er nuts out there!
