Anyone else have a seemingly constant stream of issues with an X5? I have a 2001 X5 3.0, and in the past few months the various problems have gotten pretty annoying. I've had:
- a lunatic interior fan motor that turned itself on (and off) at random. that includes when parked, locked and nobody within 10 feet. sometimes it would just come on and run for five minutes!
- badly corroded rear tail light mounting. this is a completely interior part, away from the weather.
- the seals on the bottom of the rear doors came off regularly until, in desparation, i actually glued them in with a flexible watertight glue. no real cost to this, but boy was it annoying.
- broken belt in driver's side window mechanism, with window therefore stuck in down position. naturally we had two days of torrential downpours.
- forgetful remotes have had to be reprogrammed twice in the past six months.
- there was something else in january too but i can't remember what it was (i can see the $50 cpo deductable on my credit card bill.)
I've owned a lot of BMWs over the years, about half of them with quite a lot of use and miles, and I can't remember any of them having this many problems.
Certainly there are a lot of miles on the clock - 74k - but none of this is really very mileage dependent, and besides most of the miles are very easy freeway miles. Note that the above excludes some very expensive worn out front suspension problems that are apparently pretty common in '00 and '01 generation BMW's. The dealer mentioned that the replacement parts are of a somewhat different design that seems to wear much better. It also excludes some alignment issues that are the result of our rather severe road/driveway. We've been diligent with all of the usual regular service intervals, as with all of the others.
Anyone else have similar issues?
