View Full Version : DStock, Warranty, and CDV
Bane2871 05-18-2004, 05:38 PM This may have already come up, but I was not able to find anything regarding whether or not removal of the CDV on a 330Ci would violate D-Stock rules in autox. Especially since not all 330Ci's were shipped with one installed (or so I gather from the CDV threads).
Anyone know what the ruling might be? I can't imagine that it would be a problem, but stock rules are pretty strict.
Also, are there any specific warranty issues?
I haven't verified that I've got the valve, but the operation of my clutch is exactly as decribed by owners that have/had the valve on their cars. If I do have it on mine, I would very much like to have it removed or replaced by a dummy valve. I'm not manual tranny rookie, but I can't for the life of me get consistently smooth shifts. I'm about 1:5 smooth to jerky. Plus the wear and tear on my clutch is got to be much worse.
Thanks in advance for the help.
jmott 05-18-2004, 06:51 PM you can change the car only if it ends up exactly and in all respects like a stock 330Ci that you can get in the same model year. So if there are other differences in models without that thing, you have to make those changes to. If it was a different year that it didnt have it, you can't change it.

Well, that's the kicker. From what I've picked up so far, it isn't apart of an option package and was installed on some cars and not others. Apparently, it wasn't intended for the 2001 330Ci at all. But some have it.
That being said, it sounds like it could be removed without changing stock status since it was a crap shoot whether a 2001 330Ci got it or not. Is that a safe assumption?
Pinecone 05-18-2004, 08:25 PM Check the ETK at your dealer, if the CDV isn't listed for your car, then how can someone uphold a protest about removing something that isn't on the parts list?

The CDV is designed to help smooth out shifts, according to the UUC website...in my experience, the only time it was a hindrance was when executing a hard/quick 1st to 2nd shift at high rpms during autox starts when it would cause the clutch to slip...before removal of the CDV, I would delay throttle application for an instant and that would allow the car to hook up without clutch slip...with the removal of the CDV the clutch engages quicker, with a slight bit of abruptness, as it should on a sporty car...
If you're not competing at the national level, I don't think anyone cares if you remove the CDV or not... :D

Yeah, 1st to 2nd is what typically gets me. Also, 2nd to 3rd gear downshifts.
The problem I have with it is that pedal travel and clutch travel are not always correlated. So clutch engagment will happen at different points in pedal travel depending upon how I'm driving.
Maybe a CDV with a larger orifice...
Pinecone 05-19-2004, 10:11 AM If you can legally modify it you can remove it. Stock doesn't have a provicsion for changing to modifying the stock one.
Actually you can make a BIG case for you can remove it, but you CANNOT modify it.
