View Full Version : what is a good camera mount for roll bar? ///Mracer 05-18-2004, 09:09 AM Need recommendations on a camera mount for my roll bar? Anyone suggestions? Matt badmonkey 05-18-2004, 09:13 AM IO Port is a nice mount. www.ioportracing.com _ qwickm3 05-18-2004, 09:23 AM The IO port is by far the best. offers a large range of adjustment B.Watts 05-18-2004, 09:33 AM IO Port is THE camera mount for rollbars. vodomagoo 05-18-2004, 09:34 AM go to bhphotovideo.com and get your own head and a superclamp, its more useful for other things too. the io port head is just a bogen head on a homemade clamp B.Watts 05-18-2004, 09:46 AM go to bhphotovideo.com and get your own head and a superclamp, its more useful for other things too. the io port head is just a bogen head on a homemade clamp The superclamp doesn't look trustworthy. When I'm in a car pulling multple G's and with the possibility of an impact, I want a clamp that I know CAN'T come off the rollbar. I doubt the clamp on the webpage would pass SCCA technical inspection for club racing. The IO Port also comes with a safety strap that provides yet more insurance that the camera stays where its supposed to be and actually helps to create a much more steady picture. This looks like it could slide right off the rollbar: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/largeimages/5161.jpg vodomagoo 05-18-2004, 11:59 AM although it does look week ive seen them hold up to alot of abuse, personaly i would add safety wire around where the opening is and the io port safety strap is nothing more then flat webbing and a stamped buckle, under a high stress that strap will fail most defiantly. to be safer when i had the io port mount i used climbing webbing and a stronger buckle usm34me 05-18-2004, 12:12 PM If you want to save a few bucks, the mount is on sale at Speedware (http://www.speedwaremotorsports.com/specials/marCam.asp). ///Mracer 05-18-2004, 12:29 PM thanks, I will look into the IOport. davidlamson 05-19-2004, 07:58 AM Need recommendations on a camera mount for my roll bar? Anyone suggestions? Matt Matt, I cleverly bought myself a Bogen head and a Superclamp to save money. I clamped the setup and my video camera on my roll bar and drove around the streets to test it out. I went home, checked out the video, and ordered an IO Port mount. Too much vibration for the Superclamp- it's the dampered mount on the IO Port that makes all the difference. And as Bryan said, the Superclamp just isn't enough to hold in a high g situation which is just when you don't want it to fail. The IO Port mount cannot come off. The IO Port mount works well and is safe. Sam Lamson P.S. Anyone want to buy a Bogen head and a Superclamp? ///Mracer 05-19-2004, 09:08 AM thanks everyone, I ordered an IO port. |
