They are coming out to my place this saturday between 9-12 a.m. (May 22, 2004). If anyone is interested, feel free to come by as well (alexandria, VA). I believe it is $75 to repair any chip/scratch. It's worth it! Most insurance companies will pay for this even if you have a higher deductible in comprehensive (Cheaper than replacing a windshield).

It's kind of a pain to schedule (3 week waiting list for a weekend) -- so, hence, if anyone wants to take advantage of it, feel free!

I don't suggest having this done through your insurance company. I was shopping for insurance recently and they saw this on my record as a comprehensive claim. IMHO, I would just fork out the money and pay for it yourself rather then having this as a claim.

They shouldn't increase your rates ... I pay for these things myself because I find it more of a hassle to make a claim ... So, in this sense, I agree. Although, comprehensive claims should not be sur-chargeable.

In my 10 years with Allstate I have had 4-5 windshields replaced in various cars. Not once was I charged deductible or lost my safe driver discount, had a rate increase, etc.

I have had the same experience with Allstate. 3 winshields in my jeep, and 1 in the BMW and no loss of good driver status or increase in rate.

As long as you are staying with the same company they aren't going to increase your rates because of this (I don't think they are allowed). essejM3 was shopping for a new company. They can/will look at this to factor in you new price. If you aren't planning on switching companies for a few years I would use the insurance. If you are considering switching companies anytime soon then I would pay out of pocket.
