So over the last few days I have been thinking about getting a radar detector installed in my E46 M3. I currently have a V1, but the size is becoming a factor.

Any recommendations of where to get this work done? I am looking for a complete Radar/Lasar detection set up that is installed, and not visible, when not in use.

Also, what are the prices that people are typically paying?

Thanks,

Get the remote display/audio for your V1 and do it yourself. I've been toying with the idea of making a custom folding display for my V1 as part of my sunglass holder.

I believe those with exotics usually install a K40 system, but I believe the price is well into the 4 figure area. Maybe someone else can post more info on the K40 system.

I personally use a V1 mounted and hardwired to my rear view mirror. It keeps the detector right in the sweet spot for signal pickup but out of sight from thieves. It saves me the hassle of mounting and un-mounting it every time I enter the car.

I made the mount myself out of ABS plastic. Any shop could probably make you something similar.

Unfortunately radar seems to be going out of fashion with the local tax collectors. The motorcycle group seems to only use laser now. Not even the V1 can save you from the dreaded red dot.

they're not 4gs, but they not cheap either. They're also not as good as the V1. You're much better off with the V1 mounted in your brake light housing, and a custom installed laser jammer.

If you are interested in doing a K40 installation we just recently got connected with a dealer in Tempe who will do it. If you want more info give me a call at 480-317-9911 and I will see what I can do for you. Ask for either me (Nate) or Mike if I am not in. We haven't done any K40 yet, but we can definitely give you the scoop on it. Hope that helps....
