Well i pull up at a light behind a new GMC Sierra pickup. Didn't think anything of it. Well, the light turns green and this guy takes off. I basically had to go full throttle to even keep up. This guy was moving!!! His truck looked and sounded stock. Are these trucks really that fast, or is my car slow?? I was like

New 5.3L Silverado/Sierra's 2WD models can run mid 15's best case scenario stock. They're not slow for trucks, but they're not fast either.

What about the 6.0 version?

If he took off (and you didn't expect it) and is capable of mid 15s, yes, you needed to got WOT.

But you won, right?

It's just that you're slow:D

JK, they have enough torque to take off fast, then they run out of steam.

Nothing to be ashamed of. My dad has a V-8 Sierra and that things hauls ass off the line. It peels out every single time but it does run out of steam at around 65mph.. I raced my dad once off the line and he beat me by like a car length but after 80mph I was gone...

it's called torque, but it can't beat your car, not even close.

They are quick for a N/A truck! I have a friend with an '00 Silverado 2wd and a friend with a '99 Sierra 2wd. They both have the power programmer, true dual exhaust, and one has cold/ram air induction. Those mods get rid of the losing steam at 65 bit. I can obviously beat them both, but it's not as easy as some would think. My car isn't slow either. I'd say they'd both be around a high/mid 14 with their mods. Not bad for a N/A 5.3 P/U!

6.0 was only available in the heavy duty and I had one of those and it was a dog. The regular silverado is much faster

I have yet to see one.. but Lingenfelter makes a TT kit that makes these things go 0-60 in 4 secs.....

Doesnt the Sierra Denali have the 6.0L?

Ive just been itching to mention this sighting i had at the track a few months ago. And since we are talking Chevy trucks.... It was a GMC Sierra C3 (AWD) Denali. I think it was a 5.3 but might have been a 6L. Anyhow, it was full bolt on, headers, stall, and a 150 wet shot. On 22" rims, this guy was banging out 12.4s @ 113 mph all day long. It was incredible to watch. And these trucks, with a few of the right mods, can be quite fast. Ive seen several in the 12s. BTW, speaking of fast pickups, the ones to keep your eyes on are the turbo diesels. Especially the new 6.0 Ford. An exhaust, chip and cold air makes those things crazy. With extensive mods, they see 12s as well.

Phanta - I think I saw a video of a diesel pickup running some crazy time at the track (sub 11 sec) That thing was like a locomotive - spitting out black smoke all the way down the track.

Being Canadian and a bit of a redneck I like trucks, they go great with beer. I just can't bring myself to pay that much in fuel so I can tow stuff.
