Well, let me pull myself together first and prepare myself to be the laughing stock of bimmerforums. Alright, so I’m heading out for a drive tonight through the twisties just to take it easy and relax when I see lights approaching quickly from behind. They look like truck lights to me so I don’t worry much, when I get to the turns he’ll fall back and his lights won’t be blinding me anymore. This guy, in his truck, rides my a$$ for a while; he must be a d!ck just messing with me. But I’ll wait until the turns. When we finally get to turn on to the twisty road I nail it as does he. WTF!!!!!! 0-120m.p.h. this guy maybe loses two to three feet on me! No way a truck can go that fast, it appears to be an S-10 and they would be governed plus they’re speedometers only go to 100 in the first place (I believe). I know there is nothing wrong with my car, I just beat a stock 328 last weekend in a drag race plus at l.a.c.r. my car was a whole second faster than the other 325’s. Wow, that is one fast S-10, let’s see how he handles the turns. At first when we go through the turns I pull away slightly more and more through every turn, the straights we stay about even. This goes on for a while until I catch up to a single car in front of me and have to slow down until there becomes time to pass. The S-10 not even 2 seconds later was on my a$$ again following the slow car. When a long straight finally arrives he goes around both of us and I stay behind the slow car. After a very brief moment, maybe 10 seconds, the slow car turns out and far ahead on the straight I see the S-10 stopped in the road. He’s waiting for me, he wants more. I was about a mile to ¾ of a mile back so it takes me a second to catch up to him. Once I do there are these two turns I would consider sweepers. We both take them at slightly over 100, this S-10 is definitely not stock. I specifically look for this now….this guy has absolutely 0 body roll. At this high of speed any truck would be leaning, not this guy, he stays absolutely level while taking good lines too I might add. Alright, maybe a fluke…nope! As long as I’m behind him I’m staring waiting for his car to lean but even at the 20m.p.h. turns we’re taking at abnormally high speeds his car leans none! This guy is way fixed up. After a few turns he starts using both lanes (ours and the oncoming traffic lane) This is becoming dangerous. I’m not cool with using the lane with oncoming traffic so I turn around as I had gone too far out of my way to begin with. But WOW!!!!!! That was a quick S-10. When it passed the slow car I got a look at it and it seemed to have some stickers and a cover on the bed so I know this guy has put some work into it, but seriously, what the hell! I’ve never seen a truck like that before. His suspension was absolutely incredible! Not to mention he could hang with me in the straight. I’m not a supercar or anything but I’m not stock. Anyway, give me some feedback, I’ll check it after I stop whimpering!

Me: 94 325is
Yokohamas (nothing special)
Mille Miglias (very heavy)
Brembo brakes (I forgot to mention, his braking was superb too!)
Axxis Ultimate pads
Par intake
Supersprint exhaust
Jim Conforti chip
Unorthidox Racing crank pulley and timing ring
Short shifter
Clutch stop

Him: Well, he could keep up in the straights and did a pretty admirable job in the turns too! :buttrock

A Syclone perhaps? Read about it here:

Nothing to be ashamed about.

Hmm, when I look at the lights in that picture they do resemble the ones behind me, but it's just so unlikely that I would encounter 1 of only 2,998. Oh well, I suppose somebody has to see them somewhere. This truck was awesome though, after the sweepers there was a dip in the road that only took up 1/2 of the lane, when he hit it he stuck to the road like glue, so I thought I could do the same. Nope, it threw my car a little. I can't emphasize how awesome this guy's suspension was. I give that truck much respect! Good call on the truck by the way Stinky.

I guess "you'll get him in the twisties" doesn't apply to this thread then? :)

How about the famous quote ' I still drive a BMW and you drive a truck'

I doubt it was a cyclone because he would have killed you in the straits

Once he was in front of me I realized how difficult it was to see the turns when I was following closely; maybe that is why he was falling back through the turns, he may just not have been able to see them very well.

I did get him in the twisties! But how superior do you feel by saying I beat a truck through the twisties? Until of course he began to use both lanes. That line gave him a big line advantage that I wasn't about to use. But I think he didn't catch up in the straights because he couldn't see the turns as well when he was following.

Sorry about the lack of paragraphs SilverStreak, I was being lazy when I wrote it cause it was pretty late. But check this post out :redspot not exactly paragraphs but I still upgraded.

Maybe you need to work on your driving? A high-speed driving event perhaps? If you've never done one or at least some auto crossing, then you don't really know how to drive your car and a BMW won't make up for that. Maybe he just could drive better. This isn't intended as a flame, but most people on this board have no clue how to actually drive a car around a corner.

Sh*t happens. There are some really fast trucks out there, and by the sounds of it you encountered one of em. Dont sweat it, It happens to the best of us (especially Hugo). But I agree, you drive a BMW and he drives a truck.

Heh i wouldnt say i can drive my car to its limit, far from it, but man i had some fun in the twisties yesterday. It was a 30mph windy road (uphill) Now there are some strange twists and turns on this street, the total length is no more than a couple of miles. Either way i went 65mph almost the whole way, i thought i was going to die or at least crash my car on one turn but omg was it fun, never doing it again on the street though this was more luck than skill, it was a left hand curve at the top of a hill, it then proceeds to go downhill from there. Oh man i slid about a foot or two sideways, but surprisingly my rear end didnt give out. if it had.....

RobH, no offense taken. I know I can drive at least moderately well though, I've beaten bmw's, preludes, lancers, rx-7's, focus's (foci?), and mustangs on this road and I've taught a few people how to drive it better than they could previously. I even took down a mach 1 that drives the road every day because he has to take it to work. When we finished he said his car is more of a straight line racer, which it is, but it was fun anyway. I'm nothing THAT great though. I only know what I read from books like Skip Barber's Going Faster, that's the one I pay most attention to.

I've never been to an autocross event because I'm poor and I'm afraid of blowing up my engine. It has 140k miles. Although I'm not dismissing that he could have just been a better driver, but only one of the people I've taken down that road has even been close to catching up until now.

Luftwaffe101: Glad to see you're having fun, keep at it but just don't go all out before learning the proper skills.
