It has taken me a while to post this because I am ITP of buying a house, but about a month ago I got tangled up in a race (oh darn) with a 3rd gen camaro Z28. As I pulled up to the stop light all I could see in the car were gauges everywhere and he looked over and piped me. I answered back. Light turns green and were off. I suprisingly jump 2 cars on him even though I had 2 passengers. I am guessing he had mad wheelspin. Shift to 2nd and still ahead but he is gaining on me. Go for third and CRUNCH! Catch 3&5, downshift to 4th to lower my revs then try to recatch 3rd. Nope, caught 1st instead. Dont ask me how I did it, it just happened. Since my car is chipped and that took off the rev limiter, my tach went to the 6 o'clock position before I could press the clutch down. I stopped the race immediatly but was winning. Slowly get to my destination point, kill the car and there is this god awful smell, my clutch burnt and I knew that it did. Car ran fine when I left the party, no engine noise which suprised the shit out of me.

Jump to 2 weeks ago and start to hear a whine/fingernails on a chalkboard sound coming from my tranny. Thought it would be my TO bearing so I ordered another one. The day that I order it, on my way home from the four letter word getting off of HWy270 to 55 South which is 1 mile from my apartment, the noise getts a little louder then all of a sudden I cant hardly get it out of gear. coast to the stoplight in neutral, light turns green and I start to press in my clutch and OMG!!!!!! The noise is terrible. Hard to get into any gear. Finally get it into gear and get home. Car has been parked for 1 week and 6 days. I start it every day and listen to the sound (of my heart breaking) and am waiting for my clutch kit to arrive so I can install the 2nd one in under a year. The only thing I am curious about i, when I have it in neutral and press the clutch to the floor I get a vibration in the pedal. Is that normal for a totally blown clutch? Or is that indications of a FUKT flywheel, or something else? :blackeye:

Any help will not go unnoticed.
Thanks in advance

Hey,

Definitely sounds like a bad throw-out bearing. You could also have a problem with the pressure plate. I highly doubt anything is wrong with the transmission or flywheel. If you've ordered a clutch kit you should have a new throw out bearing and pressure plate, so you should be all set once you get everything installed.

Good luck.
Mike

Thanks for your input. I was thinking the same thing but I just wanted someone elses opinion. I am dreading the clutch swap as it took me about 11 hours the last time. Hopefully I dont run into anything else that is wrong with it. I just cant beleive that it took almost a month for it to go out after the fact. What would cause it to wait that long to go out?

quality parts?

a lot of BMWs lose their TO bearings before the clutch is actually shot.

It was replaced with Sachs and will be again. We will see when the swap commences. Thanks
