I have a 75 2002,when I open my driver side window (while driving), I smell strong gas or possibly exhaust fumes in the cabin. I can find no exhaust leaks. It seems like it's coming in from the trunk, but I can't figure out how or where. Has anybody experienced this before or have any advice?

The smell is common in all 2002's, everyone I have owned and or been in has the problem. To get rid of the smell you need to replace the fuel line running from the tank to the carb. After 28+ years the plastic one will start to crack. I used a metal line from NAPA when I replaced mine. It is a pain in the ass to replace because you have to get under carpet on the passenger side and take out the back seat. Carefully put the new line in, making sure not to bend it too much of you go with a metal line.
I can't promise this will get rid of all the fumes but it should help, I can still smell fumes in my 02 with the metal line but not as bad as I used to.

Thanks, that sounds like it will work. I suspected it had something to do with that line. I thought the fumes might be coming from outside of the car because it only happened with the window open, but I think that just creates suction for the fumes to flow right past my head. Anyway i'll give it a try, thanks a bunch. :)

check trunk seals. whenthose detiriarate they will lead to exhaust smell in cabin. also check thatyou have all seals under the hood. Most of the cars are missing a few

When I have had that problem on my 2002s, it has turned out to be the fuel filler neck and the trunk seal like Steve mentioned.
