At a stoplight, 0-100. It was neck and neck until my VTEC kicked in around 3rd gear. Shut it down at one car length.

I raped that guy! :alright

In all seriousness, 1.8t's have 180hp. He should have won, but didn't. My shiny paint must have blinded him.

You'd have to check the "quote message in reply" box if you wanted to do a quick reply with quotes.

When did BMW add Honda's VTEC?

My brother has a 1.8T Chipped Jetta. He can fare his own against stock M3's. He would destroy a 318i.

Was the other guy racing?

V-TEC :buttrock

The Jetta was in reverse. spun the car around, stuck it in 4th and still almost won.

No seriously, I started winning after I fired a round from my .45 into his engine block.

in '01, vw switched engines, and turbo's in the 1.8t vehicles. the engine jumped from 150 to 180hp. both of those figures have been found to be at the wheels, though.

i have no doubt in my mind that in the straights (from a roll), that a chipped 1.8t (AWP or AWW code) could hold its own against an m3. turns, and the M would drop it though.

my guess (if this is for real), is that the jetta had the AWD engine (150 hp), and was also suffering from heat soak... the tiny intercooler, placed a little deep in the bay, isn't exactly efficient.

however, if the jetta wasn't shifting until 6800, the 20 valves should've made a difference, too. vw's are known for the bottom ends, but, i've been able to hold my own clear up to the rev limiter...

Actually, launching those 1.8T cars on thier stock tires could prove tricky for the less talented driver. I speak from personal experience :p
I used to have a GTI 1.8T about 3-4 years ago. I once lost a stoplight grandprix to a stock Chevy Beretta/Corsica coupe in a most abjectly humiliating way -- I spun my tires uselessly while he got away -- and I could not even catch up!

second that - I had an APR tuned 1.8T. It had an AWD, which doesn't have variable cam timing, has a very slightly different turbo (pitch of the blades and diameter of some flow parts, I think), and has different software from the factory. In any case, it was hard as hell to launch fast. Wheel hop or spinning. On the highway, in terms of kick without downshifting, I liked it more than my current '95 M3...something about ~240+ ft/lbs of torque in a car weighing 2850 or so :evil2. Also, my third gear absolutely ROCKED, something I can't say for my M3. Overall, though, there's no comparison. Drivability, road feel, looks (IMO), quality and performance anywhere except in a straight line from a roll go to the M3 hands down. But I'd love to have both!

nice race - was the Jetta slowing down to make an exit by chance?

I'm confused how some people say that their 2nd gear doesn't pull as well as the 3rd gear

I test drove my friend's Jetta automatic VR6 the other night and it was so S..L..O..W, it was just a bit quicker than my Montero Sport, is that normal?

odd - I think of 4th as my fun gear....then again most of my kills are on the highway. :dunno

2001 1,8T's have 150hp

this is correct but nothing that a simple chip swap can't fix. the 1.8T is very receptive to chip swaps.
