View Full Version : Z3 2.8 rapes a Mini
Yesterday, I went out to get some eggs to make pancakes this AM. As I was coming back from the ATM, I see a Mini with HIDs that's about to enter the street I'm on.
For those who have read my stories in the past, I'm on my favorite spot where there is a nice straight stretch of road. I still haven't reached that spot
Anyway, the guy sees me, I'm already ahead and I see him catch up. I decide thta I'm gonna use the fact that he has a burned amber light under his HIDs as a pretext to talk to him.
So I slow down and wait for him at the stop sign. The Mini is not even next to me that I hear both guys in it drool out loud, they sounded like Homer Simpson : «aaarrrgghhh, man, your car, whoa, aargghh...» :love1
:laugh
I go : «well, your Mini is damn nice (it was red with a white roof and white stripes on the hood), I love these cars; not an S though, huh?»
«No, but man, your Z3... too hot»
At this point we somehow start revving our engines... :devillook
We both lurch forward once or twice, then we go! :)
It's at night and it's cold, so I get mad wheelspin, so does he, but I'm already moving ahead of him. I even take the luxury of letting off to make sure the race is a little more fair... His engine sound is pretty cool! I re-floor it, shift to second... then third (woo-hoo, no 2-5 misshift!)... Man, not even funny... despite the lousy launch and letting off early on, I had probably 4-5 bus lengths on him... :az:
I was sure this thing would hang like some Civics, Protegés, etc... But it was real slow.
Of course, at the next stop, the guys are amazed at the speed of my car (they've never heard of my no-win policy), bla bla b;a, we chat a bit, the guy lives close, so at my suggestion, we go to his place, chat again, they sit in my car, I sit in theirs, good fun.
Turns out he's had some major problems with the Mini, not the least one being a blown tranny. :help
It took me a little longer to get the eggs, but it was worth it... :D
I have a MINI S. They're pretty nice cars. Straight line races are not its forté, even for an S. But I love the handling, although I haven't pushed it too hard yet in that area either. It just got broken in not too long ago (only at 5,000 miles). They still get stares though
:redspot
BabyM 05-02-2004, 11:03 AM Having a passenger probably doubled the weight of his car!
It's nice you got to talk to him and get your ego stroked a bit :stickoutt
Nice job!
slickav 05-02-2004, 01:41 PM About time you rape SOMETHING Hugo ;)
e21pilot 05-02-2004, 05:50 PM Congratulations HUGO, you just won against a car with 1/2 the displacement ahahaha!!!! They weigh about 2800 pounds and have 110hp and even less torque. The cooper S on the other hand is a LOT quicker. Suggestion for you, don't race one on the freeway ;)
For the guy who wants to know about the handeling. They understeer a little and have shitty brakes. Some porterfield R4s pads with SS brake lines and a larger rear sway bar is the thing to do. It will be a whole nother animal ;)
Oh, I expected to win, just not by that much. I mean, other run-of-the-mill econo-boxes generally put up a better fight.
But the guy was at least very cool, it seems that there are a few car nuts in that new housing development... :)
WebDev 05-03-2004, 09:56 AM Nah, those regular Minis have no guts at all. Just a little econobox. I drove the regular and the S and there is a big difference between the two no doubt about it.
Good kill though, gotta keep them in their place. ;)
m3ster 05-03-2004, 10:57 AM Even the S is not too quick. I had an 04 S that I sold to go back to the M3 world.
XaNdEr XII 05-03-2004, 11:24 AM About time you rape SOMETHING Hugo ;)
Hey Slick those guys at school are talkin mad smack about them killin your M3. But when I showed then a pic of what they had to go through first (your 325i) They looke at each other and kinda went like uhhhhh. I think there staring to get scuuuuuuured.

SilverStreak 05-03-2004, 03:45 PM 2 wins in 2 weeks....
The sky is falling! The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
:D
3 man... The IS300, the GTI, and now this. 4, if you include the C-class...
I'll see if the dealer can remove my 2nd gear. That should slow me down.
Apex E36 05-03-2004, 04:01 PM
SilverStreak 05-03-2004, 04:15 PM I was gonna make a comment about putting a banana in your tail-pipe, but that won't work with the SuperTrapp, will it? :D
The SuperTrapp is banana-proof.
But I had a little talk with the lady last night about the use of frozen bananas... :devillook
SilverStreak 05-03-2004, 04:22 PM Yum! Pics? :D
No pics (Yet?). We made my user text proud last night, instead... :ky:
SilverStreak 05-03-2004, 04:48 PM A tutorial video? :D
Not sure... :D ...but she bought some clothes with the sole intent of driving her ex crazy when she brings the kids back to his place, this summer, and let me tell ya... white pants through which you can actually see the «bimmerforums» logo on the bf.c thong are an investment!
SilverStreak 05-03-2004, 04:58 PM We need pics... :devillook
We need pics... :devillook
I took some, but they didn't turn out great. But I will... don't worry. :evil2
StouffvilleZ3 05-03-2004, 05:18 PM Pics of the pants or the action?
Nice kill, and being a proud 1/2 owner of a Mini, my Civic is faster, but nowhere near as fun to drive. The 1st gen 02's are bad on tranny's. We had ours replaced under warranty as well.
If anyone reading is looking at a Mini, look at an 03.
BTW- You don't need to take 2nd out, you miss is most the time anyways!

G95M3 05-03-2004, 10:43 PM Hmm....I guess I might be a little late chiming in, but I also went M3-MCS-M3. The MCS had some balls though. I raced a few 330cis. One on the highway stayed even to about 120mph which they actually got on tape. That scared the ever living shit out of me. Another around town, I punched it in second and barely got ahead. My best guess is that they were both autos. M3 definitely has more straight line, but not that much. Of course my M3s were both autos...don't as me why because even I dont know. Just be careful of the MCS, it can be suprisingly quick.
SilverStreak 05-05-2004, 08:29 AM Sweet, Hugo! Now... pan back a little more, let us see the rest of the package... :D

No, but I since raced a Maxima and a Couger. I get involved in like one race every other day!
