I seem to remember somebody mentioning Turpintine, which I can't even spell, let alone recommend it to use on your paint.
I don't know what you call this in the US, but in ENgland I used to use 'White Spirit' to remove sap etc. But it's quite strong, so use caution.

Normally Automotive Paint Clay or Bug and Tar Remover is the safest way to remove tree sap. I prefer clay.

Start with warm water. Not hot. See what that does. The sooner the better.
Too many short sentences. Must get espresso. ;-)

It won't hurt the paint, although it will remove wax.

I'd start with crisco. Usually works fine unless the sap has been there a while. Wont hurt your paint a bit.

I not particularly crazy about putting hard compounds on my paint. So I use Mother's step one which is a very light compound used for pre-cleaning before putting on sealer and wax. It will remove most stains and sap(unless you let the sap harden for a month). If anything worse than this every got on my paint, I think I'd call the insurance company and have the car totaled:12:
You can get this at any Pep Boys for about $5.

WD-40......Just make sure not to let it stay on the paint....I also reccomend you wash the car after taking off the sap.....WD-40 will take off everything and anything
