Hey guys, my buddy just picked up a beautiful 93 325is from portland a week ago. The car is basicly a M3. It has a M3 motor, full M3 bodykit, M3 exaust, full M3 interior, its sweet. It came with ellipsoids, intake, all euro lights, sweet 18 inch wheels, and a system and alarm. Only 48,000 miles on the M engine too. He picked it up for 11 grand he said. Oh, I must add, its an auto.

So of course all us regular 3 series guys love to see how close we can stay up with an M3. I have to admit though, a few months back i test drove a automatic convertible M3 and wasn't impressed at all. It felt very sluggish and took awhile to get going. My modded 328 definitely "felt" faster. Anyways, back to me and my buddies new ride. We had just had a great dinner at Azteca's in spokane. Nothing like a couple chicken enchilada's and a few corona's with limes. :buttrock

Well as we are both leaving the restaurant I knew he wanted to show off that sweet sounding M engine. So we pull up to the first light, i look back and don't see any cops. I held my rev at about 2,500rpms and had a beautiful launch at the light, I immediately pulled what seemed like almost a car looking back, chirp, little tire spin shifting to 2nd and he's at my rear quarter panel until we hit the next light. Unfortunately this is all we ran for the time being. I think he kinda felt disappointed that a regular 3 series was ahead of his M3. Anyways, yes its an automatic so don't go flaming me. I really want to do another race that lets the M3 stretch its legs. I'm sure that if the race was to go longer maybe he'd pull on me.

Those 18 inch wheels I would expect slow him down a bit.

You did not raced an M3 ;)

Good race, sounds fair.
How about those 18" crome wheels eh?

How could you not consider that as racing an M3? It has an M3 motor, and what do you mean what about those chrome 18's?

there's more to an M3 than a body kit and an engine bro.

Point being. Put him up against a 5 speed M3 and watch him get lit up.

yeah its not as simple as throwing in an M engine, the M3 actually shares no body panels with its 3 series bretheren. The only thing in common really is the frame, and electronics, but through and through, the tranny, engine, suspension, drive train, exhaust, intake, most of these things are different.

It's not an M car, it's a 3 series with an engine swap, which is fine, it's cool, it's unique, etc, but it has no business being called an "M3"....

Did he get the M3 LSD too?

An automatic M3 is, for the most part, on par with a 5 speed 328is. So if you are modded and he is running those 18 inch wheels, it's going to even the playing field more.

Nice run! :buttrock

hey guys, I totally understand what your saying about its not an M3. Although, I'm not sure if the car has a M3 tranny, suspension, drivetrain, it does have a m3 exaust i know for sure, and it had a aftermarket intake. To be honest, all of these things could have been done to the car. The guy he bought the car from was a older gentlemen that worked at a car dealership. By the pristine looks of the car, I'd imagine he might of changed everything out to M3 parts. The car is a 93 and made my 96 look like crap almost. I didnt see one scratch or ding on the car. The car was very, very well maintained. Just my thoughts, and in regards to a automatic m3 being equal to a 5 speed 328is, I agree. Especially since i do have intake, exaust, H&R sport springs with Koni adjustable sport shocks. I think its a good match up.
