Ok here goes. It took up some nerve to finally post it, and I know the flames will be out after you read this, so I am in my flame suit as we speak. :cool:

Last weekend I was out with a buddy of mine that is moving to San Diego. I got out late that night and as soon as I got to the bar they wanted to head out to another one. I stayed behind because there were so many chicks at the bar we were at...nice eye-candy :evil2

I finally leave and I am going down 410 and this sweet black 330ci pulls by me with an ///m emblem on the trunk. I thought to myself is that considered rice? The windows were tinted really dark. The guy floors it to get through the traffic and I follow. I keep at his bumper for the most part and then we get a break.

We line up at around 65 and we both go WOT. It was a rush!!! Two black bimmers going at it! When we gunned it I amazingly pull my back bumper to his front bumper!! I then shift to 4th and he pulls his front to my door handle. It holds steady right there until the end of 4th where he pulls even and we shut down. 1st race over :redspot

We both exit the freeway as I was well past my exit. At the light the guy rolls down his window. He ask if I want to go again...HELL YEAH!!! We line up on the freeway again. we both feel each other out and bang we're off. He pulls a little... my bumper at his side mirror and then I pull still in 3rd to about his front bumper at my door handle and then at the end of 4th he pulls even and we shut it down or rather our cars do ...gov. 2nd race down :redspot

third race this guy was determined to run again. We slow it down to 50 and launch. We were dead even I was in 2nd to 65 and shift to 3rd and put him at my bumper again and it stays that way until 4th where he pulled even again.

You can really tell where the 330ci shines and that is in 4th where he pulled even with authority. His car was extremely strong in 4th, because there was no way to hold him off. We ended up racing a fourth time and the outcome was the same as the previous three. I was impressed by my car as well as the 330. Yes it was a stick. The guy could hold his own with the 330 that is for sure. When he pulled even it looked like he was going to walk away but we both hit the gov. He gave me props and I gave him props. Oh yeah there was a prelude in the last race that tried but couldn't hang... we both laughed at that. :redspot I wish we could have gone from a stop. :D

Maybe he couldn't shift at the right times?

My car is stock so I know that the 330 had to be. Both cars were sticks also. He said his car was a 2002. As for weight I don't know exactly. I think they are within 150 lbs. of each other.

heh he could have just badged a 325, but nah i believe you, i think the 328is is significantly lighter than the 330ci. It's pretty much driver skill between them.

did you get a tranny swap 3rd? cause i thought they didnt make the 96 328is M/T ? but anyways yeah my friend has a 330 zhp or whatever it is with gruppeM and UUC exhaust and he whooped my ass...

oh yeah BTW... that kill story with you killing the Rx-8 i believe you... cause the stats that came out on the car were incorrect... i believe they said like 245hp but in actuality R&T dynoed it at something like 175.... i feel bad for those idiots that bought the car and to find out that their car is actually really slow....

Perhaps you are comparing their claimed flywheel HP numbers to the rwhp people are getting when they dyno their cars. That is like comparing apples to apple sauce. They weren't that far off on the claimed numbers. They certainly were off. I read they are dynoing 170-190 rwhp.

Just from my observations, the 328 and RX8 should be comparable. With a good driver I'd put money on the RX8. It does have more power, you just need some skill to use it.

Nope. I bought it off the pre-owned lot. As for a ZHP 330. I haven't raced one and probably wouldn't...well maybe just to see how close I could keep up. :D

:rolleyes: yeah i think someone bought an e46 M3 you know the one with 333 hp and it was dynoed at only 273 hp. go figure......... :D

can't say exactly, but my car pulls dramaticly harder with the 3.23lsd. I don't even have to come out of 5th gear on the highway. 5th pulls as strong as 4th used to it seems like. Its def a great mod. The car is kept in its powerband. :buttrock

I believe you could kill an RX-8. For one thing the 8 needs a lot of wind up to get it's power out whereas the 328 makes power right from the get go. The other thing is that the 8 is rated at 238HP, not sure what that comes out to at the wheels, but yeah, they aren't even at 250 at the flywheel like they originally said they were.

I've driven the 8 and it's quick, but I'd say it is close between that and a 328. I used to own a 328.

The one I ran on the street kind of kept up for a second or so. I was just accelerating not in the meat yet (3rd~45) when I saw that he was bringing it. It was quicker than I expected after seeing an RX-8 run low tens in the 1/8th mile. The turbo 328 I ran against that night was running low 9s, well...when I ran him he was probably closer to 10s.

When I have the 328 before they do pull pretty good. But the 330 shouldn't loose to a 328. That guy maybe shifting too early. Good run though :)

I don't know about that, the guy had 4 chances to get it right. after the first 2 I would think he would switch it up some if he was shifting too soon. He didn't lose the race. He pulled even in 4th and it pretty muched stayed that way. He did this in every race. I have driven a 330ci several times and they don't feel any different to me?!! I let my cousin drive my car and he said he couldn't tell the difference either. There is a difference I know but it is very slight at best. It was all in fun though. The guy was cool about it.

It was a close race. It was more intense than other races because it was another bmw. I relly wanted to go all out with a 330ci and I got my chance. 4 times at that. It wa rush. It was just soooo close at freeway runs. I have run against stangs at higway speeds and they just kind of drop off at triple digits. When I say drop off I mean that they don't get after it like they do in the 1/4. The 330 however didn't seem to let off any. In fact it got stronger because it did pull even in 4th. If it weren't for the gov who knows what he would have done.
