10kken 04-29-2004, 01:04 PM The pictures are kind of dark, but I'm guessing the second one.
m lew 04-29-2004, 03:13 PM Your pictures are so dark I can't make out either one.
If you read these threads, you will know that to optimize the performance of an aftermarket HU, go with an aftermarket amp. But if you MUST go with the stock amp, the cheapest way to get one would probably be your local wrecking yard.
mrfatride 04-29-2004, 10:58 PM sorry bout the dark pics. first pic is hanging on the drivers side at the top of the trunk. 2nd pic is inside the rear fender on the drivers side. i understand mlew i am putting subs in the trunk but want a new head unit as well. how can i wire up the new head unit and still have the factory amp function. i called crutchfield up and they said i needed the wiring harness and a line converter. i dont understand why i need a line converter. doesnt it just add rca's?? dont new head units come with rca connectors??
deedubb 04-30-2004, 05:20 AM Its definitely the 2nd pic. I remember mine being in the fender well of the trunk when i removed mine.
mrfatride 04-30-2004, 07:43 PM so i guess now is do i just need a wiring harness for a new head unit? i am gonna put subs in it so a new head unit will have the rca's for that.
deedubb 04-30-2004, 07:47 PM If you are getting a new deck, you'll need a wiring harness(I did). I dont know about the line converter tho. Thats wierd. All I needed was the wiring harness and the deck(which had rca connectors).
deedubb 04-30-2004, 07:49 PM Maybe im not following you. You are going to use the factory amp correct? If you are, then you will need the line converter. To change over from RCA connections to regular wires that the factory amp will accept(i dont think the factory amp has rca's)

thats correct i am using the factory amp for the speakers but i am also putting in an amp for my subs. i see where u are coming from with line converter but how do i hook my amp up for my subs???? also do they make line converters that plug into the head unit. only ones i have seen are the ones with the female ends on it.
deedubb 04-30-2004, 10:33 PM Its alot to explain.
Check your PM, If you want, you can call me and i'll explain it better over the phone
mrfatride 04-30-2004, 11:20 PM thanks for all the help i really understand now.
deedubb 04-30-2004, 11:21 PM Anytime. let me know if i can help again
mrfatride 05-01-2004, 11:32 AM thanks actually i have one more question. say i only find a head unit with 2 pair of rca's do i just get a 2 channel line converter and hook the left front and rear and right front and rear together?
deedubb 05-02-2004, 04:10 AM Get some RCA splitters that allow you to have 4(2 sets) RCA outputs from your 2 RCA outputs (1 set). This will allow you to still have the Rear OUT or Subwoofer RCA outputs on your deck open for the subwoofer amp.
mrfatride 05-02-2004, 08:08 AM well i decided to get the Alpine 9827 model head unit which i belive has 3 pair front rear and sub.
m lew 05-03-2004, 06:52 PM A line convertor is more than just a RCA jack. It converts line level inputs (ie., from a stock deck) to the RCA low level inputs needed by most aftermarket amps. Some aftermarket amps can take speaker level inputs. For these amps you don't need line convertors.
mrfatride 05-04-2004, 12:17 AM ok so i just wire the radio up normaly i take it. that will make it alot simpler if its true. thanks for the input m lew you have been alot of help too!
mitchelrl 05-04-2004, 03:01 AM I don't even use my stock amp. My Alpine 7876 powers the speakers better than that amp ever could.
mrfatride 05-04-2004, 05:26 PM so i guess now i am back to how do i wire it up eh
mitchelrl 05-04-2004, 07:41 PM Get a wiring harness...they're like 9$
then hook your remote amp turn on line to the power antenna and booya, it works fine.
It sounds loopy, but it works, I had to do that to mine in order for it to work.

well dont i need to use the remote amp turn on for the amp i am gonna use for my subs???
mitchelrl 05-04-2004, 08:23 PM you can also hook the remote turn on wire for your subs into the antenna/remote connection, that's what I did with mine and it works fine.
