Hi everyone.
I just recently purchased a very weird running 97 M3. The price was right, but it sure doesnt run right and has other little issues.
After the purchase and talking to the previous owner over email, I found out the car used to have a Dinan Supercharger two owners ago.

Looking under the hood, it seems true, as the ECU cover is clearly taken off, there are wires that have been spliced into on the fuel rail and intake, and those sorts of things.

However, my car runs funny. It is pretty dead at low rpm, but screams at high rpm. Also, I dont have any O2 sensors, but dont have any CEL or fault codes anywhere.

The guy said it had a modified ecu or chip, and maybe bigger injectors.

If this is all true, Id like to sell/swap for stock. Ive heard an expensive part of the forced induction kits is the softare, not actually always the turbo/supercharger. Id sell this stuff pretty cheap, or swap for very little money. It would be great if you were in the bay area so we could swap ECUs and see if my car runs better, so that we know there actually is a difference in these ECUs so youre not paying money on top for a stock ecu.

Is there any way I could tell ?? Reading the #s off the chip?
Also, my injectors are currently PINK. I heard they were color coded.

Any help would be great.

It sounds like what you need are two things:

1. Stock 97 Injectors
2. Stock software or have your ECU reprogrammed to a non-FI tuning program

Also you probably need to remove the box that most FI kits run between the ECU and HFM to limit voltages coming of the HFM. Best person to talk to is NickG...cause....well he's just the man.

If your injectors are pink, you probaly have 1997 stock injectors.

I guess you realize that, unless you have someone Disable your EWS protection in the ecus, you cant swap ECUs with anybody, and expect the cars to start.

Actually I didnt even think of that.
Would I be able to swap addon chips with someone, or does obd2 not have chips like that?

and can you tell me a little bit more about this voltage limiting box?

Ill try to get ahold of that guy you mentioned.. or atleast read all his posts on here. thanks

Nope.. obdii doesnt have 'chips' like obdi.. the box you refer to is a scaling device. With the added flow of FI, the problem is that youll over run your voltage signal from the hfm to the ecu. The scaler box rescales the HFM signal downward so the ecu reads a lower signal, but over a wider rpm range. The software then, is written to respond to this rescaled signal.. Got it?
