View Full Version : Nitrous with M3 Schrick Cam kit?
Has anyone attempted a 75 wet shot on an M3 3.0 Schrick Cam Kitted car? 24lb injectors, conforti chip, and conforti intake?
I know there are issues with timing advance with the cam chip but some have said its ok as long as its not something along the lines of a 100 shot.t
I'll probably never have the balls to do this but just curious.
I'll more likely save the money for EMC or mroadsters turbo kits.
Flame suit on.
///MCubed 04-21-2004, 05:39 PM I think the only person that may be running something similar to what you want is a member with a Stickley Built motor. If memory serves me right, he is running a 75 nozzle with a cams (don't know brand). It is a white sedan and he owns a wheel repair shop. Hope this helps.
EDIT: I did a search, and I believe he was running the NO2 prior to having his current setup (shrick cams, 24lbs inj., 540 HFM, etc.)

I was running a NX nitrous kit with my schrick cam kit and went through about 10+ bottles! Never went over a 75 shot because than I would need some way to retard the timing. I know of a friend that ran a 100 shot in his 325 with turner chip and no problems.
I just sold the kit to a friend because I am building a custom turbo kit now.
brkyrself, did you ever get your car dyno'ed to make sure it wasn't dentonating?
How did the 75 shot feel? Did you have the Jim C software?
Any other recommendations besides the window switch, bottle heater, etc?
Brekyrself 04-21-2004, 07:04 PM Yes I got it dynoed and it was running pig rich 10.5:1. NX sets up their kits to run rich and safe. If I kept the kit I would of put a smaller fuel jet in there to get the afr to ~11.5-12:1.
My stock clutch has seen better days and really started to show on the dyno while spraying. With just the schrick cam kit and fan delete the car out out 241rwhp and 221rwtq. While spraying and the clutch slipping it put out 280rwhp and 280rwtq. This was all done on a dynapack chassic dyno.
I know of a 97 m3 with intake/exhaust/m50 manifold/75 shot that put out 300rwhp and 330rwtq on a dynojet. The power is definatly there just make sure your other parts are up to the task. Especially the clutch ;)
I would definatly get a larger diameter fuel T which is included in the NX standard import kit (20923). The fuel T that came with the kit is a piece of shit and seems like its made for a lawnmower.
Get a window switch to avoid spraying too low or bouncing off the rev limiter. Play around with your launch and see where you want to start spraying. Starting at 3200rpm worked great for me and I sprayed all the way to 6800rpm.
Get a low fuel pressure cut off switch. Just another safety feature that will cut the nitrous if fuel pressure gets too low.
Mount the bottle with the valve pointing towards the front of the car since the pickup in the bottle is at the bottom. With the liquid shifting when you accelerate you want all the liquid no2 at the pickup point.
GET A BOTTLE HEATER. A bottle heater is needed to get the correct pressure built in the bottle. When your spraying the bottle gets really really cold (pressure goes down) and the shot will start to die off. With the heater it will keep the bottle at a constant pressure and get the full 75 shot or whatever you decide to spray.
PM or email me if you have more questions.
thanks for the writeup. It pretty much summed up everything i had questions about.
so if i decide to do this, following all of your recommendations, and blow my motor can I blame it on you? :stickoutt
Spencer 04-22-2004, 12:34 AM Brekyrself,
Any chance you'd have that dyno sheet on your computer to post? I'd like to see it.
Also, would like to compare it to vortech s/c and turbo dyno's.

euroracer325i 04-22-2004, 02:40 AM i wouldnt go no more then a 50 shot of nitrous just to be very safe..i think anyhing higher woulkd be better if you arent chipped
i concur that a dyno sheet would be very helpful..
does anyone know if a colder heat range than stock will affect the performance of the car when it is NOT on nitrous?
Concentric190 04-23-2004, 02:56 AM Im going to be running the JC/tuner/evosport cam kit with the Nitrous Express kit. Ive been in Breakyrself's car when hes sprayed and the way it pulls is just awsome.
Weve ran on the highway before in 4th gear, without the spray we were even then when he turned on the spray his car pulled away from me nicely.
Its also far less expensive then a supercharger kit, and just as safe to run as a turbo or supercharger kit (if hooked up properly). As long as you dont go over a 75shot you'll be safe.
Other mods I have is the AA track pipe, Borla cat back, and fan delete. (more on the way of course :) )
Im hoping, and should break into 12's with this setup.
Ferris 04-23-2004, 09:17 AM There are two issues, first the timing of the exhaust valve and second the ignition timing.
When running juice you could easily boost your octane to safer level to prevent detonation, with something like Toulene or Xylene. Since activating nitrous oxide is the drivers choice, you could simply not run it when you're detonation prone, ie running lower octane fuel.
The second issue though is when you retard ignition timing ,up the octane, and cause the exhaust valve to open earlier you could lead to an issue were the valve opens while the mixture is still burning, this leads to burnt exhaust valves. So when you're first tuning things you want to watch the EGTS, higher egts better chance of burning exhaust valves.
I'm not sure of this combo you speak of but if it some how advances exhaust valve timing you could be opening yourself up to some problems.
Concentric190 04-23-2004, 02:17 PM If you run anything higher then a 75shot you will need to change the timing but with the 75 and lower you'll be fine.
