Alright fellers, my buddy's 318i's m10 gave up yesterday (spun bearing or something, I pulled about a shot glass's worth of metal shavings out of the oilpan, along with some other unidentified larger pieces of stuff), and I'm wondering about using its' tranny on my e21.

Will that tranny bolt up to my '78s bell housing? Will I need to use the e30 tranny mounts/bracket? Am I going to need a custom driveshaft to mate the e30 to the e21 diff?
Am I dreaming?

My e21 really needs a tranny, and it would be great if I could use this one.
Thanks for any help you guys can offer- I'm not incredibly familiar with with the variations of 2002/e21 trannies vs. the e30 ones.

The block is basically the same between all the M10 motors, so the tranny ~should~ bolt up to your motor. Not sure about the mounts though. Best way would to be to try....or call 2002ad and ask them. Search for them on the web if you don't have anything with their #.

Thanks man!
I'm gonna pm TheNeek as well- I would imagine he could set me straight regarding the tranny mounting details since he's using a tranny meant for e30... (right?)

the e30 has an electronic differential mounted speedo sender and the e21 has a transmission mounted gear.

Here is a link to a little transmission information.

Thanks a ton for the link Ron!

So does that mean anything besides the possibility of not having a functional speedo? I hope so, it's a track car anyway and really doesn't need one.

the output flange may need to be changed on the transmission depending on the drive shaft used.
