The car i went and looked at today was shitted. expecially for 1000
Mechanical questions: Its a 79 so it has the 2.0 but it has mechanical fuel injection (which im not fond of) the lines are all really shadey looking and clear platisc not steel braided like VW's. Since i would turbo this car because it comes with the kit, but it has that mechanical fuel injection....... When you boost a car you need more gas so that it doesnt pop from being to lean but how do you up that pressure on that system. If it was an m20 or the e30 body you get mustang 5.0 injectors and a ADJ fuel pressure regulator which solves your problems. Any ways the turbo kit is really nice! polished sheetmetal intake good non cracked manifold but the turbo has play :shifty so it wouldnt last to long, Its a kay jay i think but i cant remember.

As for the car: the body is straight no EXTERIOR rust. but the rear left shock tower is rusted and as soon as it saw some thrashing on the canyons it would give VEry soon. The headliner is raped and there is no passenger seat. I guess the only thing good that i found out about this car is the turbo kit. I will pass on the rear disc, there rusted to hell and will need entire rebuild : ( but let me know what you think and about if they ever come with a different injection system, this would be the only thing shady to me is boosting a mechanicaly fuel injected car. i know its done all the time but i just dont want to think about that DO-hickey. Thanks and any help would be apperciated. :eyecrazy:

questionable boost because of a mechanical injection system? And the lines are not braided like a VWs for a reason. BMW built the engine better than VW. What do you think is under the braids? Thats right, plastic, just like the BMW lines. The reason for the lines not being braided is that BMW designed better holders for the lines so they would not rub against anything. Some engineering there.

Mustang injectors rating does not contribute to a significant benefit on a Motronic engine. The same performance can be had if you send the injectors off to be professionally cleaned or replace them with new spec'ed injectors. "Wow, my car does so much better with thesenew injectors." Hmm, I wonder why? To take advantage of the adaptability of the Motronic ECU in a turbo application switch to higher poundage injectors and I am not talking about a measly 19lbs. That is sure to burn holes in your pistons by going lean. Up the lbs and let the ECU do the work.

Also an add on turbo system for a Kjet equipped car should have the appropriate measures for including extra fuel during a boost event. Be it a pressure activated injector, modified WUR, Microfueler, what have you, not knowing what to look for does not mean it is not there. The turbos of then can be improved on since there are much better units available.

Finally who said a C.I.S. (Kjet) system can not produce adequate horsepower in a turbo application? Ever hear of an Alpina B7 Turbo with the Pierburg injection system? Last I recall that car could do 300 (conservative figure) HP and not break a sweat. Look it up.

Just because it is KJet does not mean it can't whoop on a Ljet or Motronic equipped car. Like it has done and currently does. Typical of e30 guys always dissing on the KJet.

thanks for such an athoritive reply, the things you discussed makes sense, the k jet can handle it! thats good to know but what would you upgrade so that it will be forshure getting enough gas at lik 8 lbs of boost (if that)
I wasnt really dissing the system just that since i know so little about it im scared of it and whats its capeable of. any ways thanks for the help and ill look at it agian later.

Just ask some of the guys on here what THEY are running with their turbo set-ups. They're running Kjet (right?) and things are just fine. A bit of fiddling at first, but that is almost ALWAYS the case with putting a turbo on any car.

So are you getting the car? Or have the rear towers freaked you too much? I've heard and seen some nasty examples of this type of rust on e21's, and it's not pretty. Good luck with it if you get it.....although I'm sure I'll be talking to you about it soon enough....

pick up the car either way, you can swap out that turbo setup + engine into another chasis down the road if the rust is too much to handle
