Look at what my co-worker just showed me.

She wanted to know if the 40k service was a good deal because it's a special for this month:

yeah, but I'm not sure if they use a genuine VW oil drain gasket. They're a little pricey.

i work at a vw dealership, and that is actually cheap in comparison with the other vw dealerships in the dc/va/md area.

The fucked up thing is, 6 cylinders are "slightly higher!" As if $400 wasn't enough for a 4 banger 40k inspection....

Mark, what's the labor rate at the dealerships? It looks like it's $50-60 in parts, and the rest is labor. Maybe my money is off, but even if it's $100 in parts, it's still $300 in labor. I guess it's 5-6 hours of looking around. :dunno:

they can usually get the whole thing done in an hour too, from my experiences. without throwing multiple techs at the problem.

where I work (tysons corner area) the labor rate is $86 an hour, and in general 40K services are 5.1 hours. kinda off topic, but i think BMW of fairfax charges $115 an hour.

I'm still a trainee technician, but I can do this service in less than 2 hours if i'm not interrupted and everything goes smoothly. The time differs from car to car. If any technician takes more than two and a half hours, he/she's snoozing. The fastest i've ever done this service was more/less an hour on a V6 passat-i was rushed because the ticket was handed to me with a little over an hour to go before the "promised time" and I hate getting in jobs late even if they're handed to me close to the deadline because i know a person's waiting for the car.

BTW, this is not a service I do too often because it is considered a "gravy" job and I'm just hourly for now. A "flat rate" technician would get paid 5.1 hours no matter how long the service takes.
