View Full Version : Have an eye apointment with Dr. Boothe tomorrow.(Lasik)
Austin 04-14-2004, 02:19 PM I'm gonna see what this guy says about my eyes. I dont really know who to use for the actual surgery thou.
It'll probably cost me $3000 for both eyes.

Jkan2001 04-14-2004, 04:37 PM Good luck, hope you don't go blind. My dad has lasik done and it went pretty well except his eyes were kind of dry for a while so he had to constantly put eye drops in his eyes. I don't really hate wearing glasses enough to go get it done besides for 3000 i'd rather have a supercharger :)

right after surgery it is recommended to use eye drops, its normal for dryness to occur(one of my friend had the Lasik and the doc had told him to use drops after surgery)

gobuffs 04-15-2004, 07:37 AM I had Lasik done....you couldn't pay me enough to go to Dr Boothe...too many horror stories out there about him.
I used the Zale Laser Center. $2k/eye, but the guys that do it are the guys you go see when Dr Boothe screws up.

Bruce, what kind of stories did you hear about Dr.Boothe? I know a friend from work that went there and he had nothing but good things to say about the place.:dunno
Good luck Austin, I plan on taking the Lasik route soon too.
bigjetmech 04-15-2004, 10:19 AM "1310 The Ticket" endores them so they have to be good!
SecretAznSauce 04-15-2004, 11:31 AM Austin, I am thinking about it also, maybe you can talk him in a group buy!
Austin 04-15-2004, 12:45 PM I forgot the name of the doctor I was told to use I believe hes in Irving ? I went to Boothe to get a free estimate to compare price's.
I'm -12.75 left eye and -13.50 right eye both eyes will cost $3600 at Boothe. I'll check with Zale are they located off 15th and Coit ?
Also I'm not worried about the price money does'n matter when it comes to health. I'm just getting an idea of how much I'm going to have to pay.
Boothe looked more like an assembly line than a doctors office.

John in Houston 04-15-2004, 02:31 PM My dad has lasik done and it went pretty well except his eyes were kind of dry for a while so he had to constantly put eye drops in his eyes.
My wife just had Lasik here in Houston. Dr. Holliday.
She has dry eyes to begin with, so it was really bad right after surgery (FWIW, for the 1st week you are only adding drops to aid healing and fight infection, not normal lubricating drops).
Anyway, the Dr. installed duct-plugs in her tear duct drains. In the corner of your eye (nearest the nose) is where your eyes drain into your nasal cavity / throat. They insert a plastic plug in the duct which helps your eyes retain fluid. Keeps them nice and moist. Completely painless and takes about 5 minutes to install. They are obsorbed in about 3-4 months.
Austin 04-15-2004, 03:28 PM Well once I find more info on the eye doctors we could try the group by idea I suppose. But my surgery will cost more than you guys. Must be nice to have to never worry about something stuck on your face like glass's and always replacing them and contacts drying out and your eyes itching from the being dried out. My contacts are thick only few companies make them. My glass's cost a shit load inorder to make them small enuf so I'll wear them.
Once I have the surgery I will be cleared on the medical for the Air Force so I can start basic but I have to wait after the surgery.

Lots of eye infections. Some needing cornea transplants.

You are very near (if not already) not being a candidate. I would HIGHLY recommend a 2nd or 3rd opinion.
Zale = Zale Lisphy Hospital. Near Parkland (35E and Motor St). Here is a link. I had Dr Bowman do mine- he was great (he also did my mom's cataracts. http://www2.utsouthwestern.edu/lasercenter/index.html
Also I'm not worried about the price money does'n matter when it comes to health. I'm just getting an idea of how much I'm going to have to pay.
Zale is a flat $1995/eye if they deem you acceptable (plus the medications are included). Make sure you follow the link above to get into one of their free Tuesday seminars so you can get the inital testing for free. You will learn in the seminar that the price shouldn't be dependent on anything- greater correction just means the doc has to type more into the computer.

Exactly. That is another bad thing about Dr Boothe- he is timely on pre Lasik, but post Lasik appt times are bad and you wait and wait and wait. However, my neighbor across the street had his done by Dr Boothe without problems.
Austin 04-16-2004, 04:55 AM Ok I just signed up for the April 19th seminar at Zales.
Boothe said my eyes are within limits and my eye doctor said I'm ok so far so good.
