View Full Version : Cicadas are coming!

I remember the last time these things came. All the crunching from stepping on them. The noise was awful. AutoXing will be fun, with those things hitting cars, trying to avoid them when just standing around. Lack of traction because of all the bug juice.

Ewwwwwww. :(

I was at camp in Pa. when I first saw the cicadas. It was during my 4th grade Summer vacation.

I used ot pull their heads off. All you have to do is pull the front two feet...and the head pops RIGHT off. :D

Are you serious??? That's pretty freaky.

Do you think that line will work on girls?? "Pull on this and watch my head pop off!!!!"

Actually, around this time of year (more like in late April/May) when it is time for the cicadas, the grubs will be already in the soil. Man, I am getting the creeps...

No WONDER dogs like them, they sound fuckin delicious! From Mount St. Joseph Cicada watch:
What do they taste like?
Periodical cicadas are best eaten when they are still white (teneral), and they taste like cold canned asparagus. Like all insects, cicadas have a good balance of vitamins, are low in fat, and the females are especially high in protein. They are also Atkins friendly!

Hey what u starin at yo??

Live online today at 2 - Cicadas: Good Enough to Eat? http://discuss.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/zforum/04/metro_gordon041604.htm

David Gordon, a biologist and author of the "Eat-a-Bug Cookbook," says in a Friday Metro section story, Cicadas: The Other, Other White Meat (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A16047-2004Apr15.html), that cicadas about to emerge from a 17-year marinade in the soil of the Eastern United States should be considered a delicacy....

Gordon will be online Friday, April 16 at 2 p.m. ET, to discuss his book, bug cuisine and the finer points of his recipe for cicada-topped pizza.

I was hungry from Jed's steak thread...
