View Full Version : Rain-X: It really works!
midlifecrisis 04-12-2004, 05:18 PM Applied Rain-X on 3/20. Drove it in the rain today (4/12) and it still works (car is parked in garage but is driven daily). I even use the spray nozzles to clean the windshield from time to time but rain-x stayed on. It felt good to watch everyone else using their wipers while I enjoyed rain-x and its water repelling action. A must-get...and available at wal-mart and other cheapo stores near you.

Totally agree. Safety item. I've been using it for about 10 years and have always wondered why so few folks know about it.
Need to put it on about every 3 weeks or so for best results, at least to front windshield. Other windows periodically. Can drive through rain with wipers off. GREAT stuff!
Mantic 04-12-2004, 08:04 PM Yep i love rainX.
GQ_Style 04-12-2004, 08:05 PM Only on the side and rear windows. If I use it for the front windows, the wipers gunk it all up and mess up the wiping ability and steaks like mad. I think it is great for every other glass part that the wipers don't touch.

Have never had this prob, and live in Florida, where rain...happens. Lots. Zero problem with front windshield and using Rain-X.
Maybe you're not cleaning it off after applying? Rain-X dries. Then rub it off with wet, wet towel, then squeegee dry.
timsev 04-12-2004, 10:51 PM alcohol based window cleaners also do the same thing.
comptechgsr 04-13-2004, 03:05 AM i love rain-x

I agree. I like it for the side/rear/mirrors, but not on the windshield.
Rain-X is a polymer coating that can only be removed by abrasion, as with the wipers. If your wipers don't wipe evenly, they can eventually start to streak or chatter as they skip over the irregularly coated surface.
At that point, reapplication is the only cure, and usually at much shorter intervals than is normally called for. It's one road that you can't go back on, and more trouble than it's worth for me, so I take the other road and skip the windshield.

I've been using it for a few years and have NEVER had even a hint of a problem.
The stuff is awesome, and as said above, it is a safety necessity. It makes it SO much easier to see in the rain, it should be required, just like seat belts.
It is THAT big of a difference. On the freeway, I don't even need to use my wipers that much if I'm going fast enough. Maybe every minute or so.
I have it on all my windows and even my side mirrors. ;)
Rahul325 04-14-2004, 04:51 PM if u love rainX, try aquapel. i just ordered it nad havent yet tried it. from what i have heard it needs application only once a year and is much more effective than RainX. more details @ http://www.ppg.com/gls_aquapel/main.htm
Ryan328i 04-14-2004, 11:28 PM Isn't aquapel like stongard for the windshield, in the it looks the same. It's a sheet that needs to be stuck down? How much does it go for, it looks good from the website but I don't know anyone who has it.
I don't know anything about aquapel, but rainx or rainx like products, are amazing. Worth it's weight in gold.
