They look pretty ridiculous mounted on the rims, fairly well pinched, but with the right pressures they just flat work, and they grip much, much better than 235/40 Ecstas on the same wheels. I did a Philly region event up at Ripken stadium this past weekend and was pretty happy with the results. The extra grip will take a while to get used to.

No strut clearance problems up front and no clearance problems with the rear fenders...

There has been some debate as to whether it was or was not on two wheels. The corner workers approached me as I was changing tires after the event and said the inside front was off the ground for about 4 seconds in that turn but said nothing of the rear. I think it is an optical illusion.

The car is scary quick, now. I was 0.4 off of Steve Snow's black Z4 at this event, and I'm pleased about that. Once I get used to the added grip... yikes.

When you say Motorsport Wheels, do you mean the stock 95 7.5 inch wide ones? What pressures were you running them to get them to work? Is your car lowered or factory ride height?

TIA

Stock springs with koni's and on stock 95 M3 wheels.

How much camber do you run up front? Nice pose!

Damn nice one! Did you feel they needed to be warmed up more, or did they get sticky pretty quick?

So your saying that he fit 255 victoracers on 7.5rims???

Yes. And they work a hell of a lot better than 235/40 Ecstas.

I have to credit TRSCCA Greg for the info as well as the Kumho tech line. They suggest a 255/40 would fit better on a 7.5" rim than the 245/45s I ran last year. Mark Sipe (TeamZ4) also suggested that I might have to modify the front strut housings to get them to fit. I did not have to, they fit fine with a 5mm spacer up front. No spacer in the rear, and they clear the fenders, although barely.

My starting pressures were 38 front (cold) and 32 rear (cold). Ambient air temp was about 55 degrees. No sun to speak of. The tires heated up quickly. After the first run on a 50 second course, the front pressure was 41psi and the rear was 34. The rears were rolling over all the way to where the edge of the tread meets the sidewall but no farther - perfect. The fronts were not even close. Too much pressure. I ended up dropping the front pressure after every run, finally settled on 36psi front (hot) and 34psi rear (hot). This setup worked very well, the car was quite neutral. Rear would step out if I dropped the throttle or tapped the brakes mid corner, but would stay planted under power.

I run in stock class. Mods are Koni SAs (front: 1/2 turn from full soft, rear: 1/2 turn from full stiff), RD front sway bar set to full soft (may go up a notch here), Borla exhaust. Alignment is stock M3 fare: zero front toe, .4 degrees total rear toe, -1.5 degrees negative camber front and rear. You can see how much positive camber the outside front wheel has in that pic.

Hope this helps,

John

THAT'S why you sold them to me for so cheap!!!

Actually John, you looked HORRIBLE out there-you need new tires. I think TeamZ4 is right-sell me those Victos and you can get some Hoosiers. :D

At least it's a step in the right direction... <sigh>

After seeing a 225/45 Hoosier up close, I can believe it - they are WIDE but the bead is designed to mount inward (i.e., on a smaller rim). And I just found out today that I work with a fella that can get Hoosiers at about $50 off Tire Rack's prices. Ack... maybe next year (if the S2000s, Z4s and Boxsters get moved that is)
