View Full Version : I regret having polished my M

I spent 9 hours doing a complete detail (FI2, AIO, SG) on my cosmos M. I'm still sore! Now, I'm paranoid about microscratches, or worse! First day, my friend decides she's going to be a smarta$$ and rubs her butt on the rear 1/4. I got a little nutty and, of course, she didn't understand.

Then, yesterday, I nearly had a heart attack when I got out to the parking lot at the end of the day and there were construction workers who had been grinding on a brick wall and spreading dust (and sand) all over the cars in the lot. THEY WERE CLEANING OFF THE CARS WITH A POWER WASHER! Luckily, they hadn't gotten to my car and I just drove off. Rinsed it off with hose to get the grit off. I'll wash the dust off this weekend.

The lesson: the nicer you try and keep your car, the harder others will work to wreck it.

I feel your pain. For me, if it isn't dust, it's careless people in parking lots, passengers who leave fingerprints all over the glass, or the landscapers who blow grass clippings all over parked cars. Plus, my job occasionally requires me to visit a construction site, which means all kinds of extra mud and dust. Luckily, I wasn't there the day the painting contractor got overspray on 30+ cars.

You just can't take a nice car anywhere.

Cosmos,

I feel your pain.

It seems like you took the advice in detailing 101. I wanna see some pics of your car! Klasse on black is an outstanding combo!

David:

I did follow your tips and the SG (3 coats) does look great. Thing shines even with a layer of dust on it.

I am planning on puttin on 1 or 2 coats of P21S next weekend (is 2 overkill?), but I'm a little afraid of mixing the SG and wax on cosmos. Any thoughts?

I'll get some pics out. I JUST finished all my exterior mods (blacked out grill, BMP grill badge, Velocity splitters, modestly tinted signals (amber), E46 M3 trunk spoiler, and Mille MMII-2 Sports) and had the rear bumper repaired and painted. The dusting occured on the day I picked it up from the shop, so I haven't really had a chance to appreciate it in final form.

Thanks, again, for all your wisdom on this board. One other question, you have any problem with Lexol for the leather. I've heard some complaints.

Lexol can be underwhelming if used without water. I thought it didn't do much until hal9000 told me to use enough water to make lather with lexol. If the applicator is moist enough Lexol forms lather and then the fun begins! It is a really good product. However, I've read here that it should not be used for Nappa leather.

I feel your pain. How many times did you drive your freshly washed car and the prick in front of you decides to spray his windshield?

Ooooh, I hate that. Someone did that to me once when I wouldn't get out of his way fast enough. :angryfire

Cosmos,

I would personally just do one coat of p21s. 2 coats won't give any added benefit.

Don't worry about mixing the wax and SG. You should be fine. If you do encounter any hazing problems don't freak out or do anything. Just let the wax wear away on it's own. Within a month any hazing will have dissipated.

I haven't had the need to use any leather cleaners or conditioners myself. From all that I've heard, lexol is a decent poduct for regular upkeep. Products like leatherique on the other hand are good to use 2-4 times a year to really deep clean and recondition the leather.

Glad to be of service!!

I dunno what it is but everytime I wash or think about a good wash, it rains or snows here. I am starting to think my baby is the control center for weather. Or maybe I'm crazy and it is all one big coincidence but my car has not been spotless for more than 24 hours since I moved to michigan.

I am such a cleanliness nazi.

Well with my car anyway.

I dont like my friends handing their car out the window because the will leave fingerprints on the side....Or touching the windows..

I wash it every week, and not if i know its gonna rain the next day!

I can relate. Sometimes my car gets really dirty since I can't park in the garage, and sometimes my friends will randomly start touching my car
Then I explain to them what kind of a process i'm going to have to go through to remove the micro scratches that they just created.

man i know what you guys mean, i start getting a twitch in my eye when people grab my windows, i mean honestly, there is a friggin handle on the door, you don't need to grab the damn window to close the door for the love of god. Oils are a pain in the ass to clean.

By coincidence would everyone have cosmos? heheh. So pretty, yet so high maintenance (much like a woman).
