There is no complete retrofit kit available for seat heaters. You'll need to get the parts separately and then wire up the harness yourself.

In terms of parts, you'll need the seat bottom and seat back elements for both sides. Then, you'll need the two seat heating switches. I suppose one clever place to mount the switches would be in the lumbar switch blank on the outside seat frame.
This would cut down a lot of the inevitable wiring clutter.

Hope this helps.

Actually Alan, about two years ago I was able to order BMW p/n 52 11 9 402 814, which was a complete E36 heated seat retrofit kit. I believe Jim Powell also used this kit, but it would be better to ask him for confirmation.

The kit was for a friend with an E36 coupe. After seeing the hassle with removing the leather covers from the seats, he ended up buying a set of used seats with factory heating elements. I took the elements from the kit, which I never got around to installing in my LTW seats. Oh well.

The short of it is, this job is a PAIN. It took many hours, and resulted in very sore fingers. No fun. But then again, if you like wiring, and working in tight spaces, this one could be right up your alley.

Now I have to go through the same ordeal with my E46, which BMW wouldn't build with both the cold weather package and the cloth interior. Cloth is nice, but those cold mornings at the track are going to kill me! ;)

You're absolutely right, Matt. I can't believe I missed that on the ETK. My bad.

The part number above is for the sport seats.

52 11 90 402 813 is the part number for standard seats.

What's wrong with those 2" thick fuzzy fake fur seat covers?

Heh heh. Actually, one of my friends has 'em on his car in the cold Northeast winter, and it actually feels pretty nice. Looks like you're sitting on a grizzly, though.
