I just bought some M3 LTW wheels, they used to be track wheels and have some really nasty black marks on them, I assume its grease or rubber based makres, but I'm not sure the best way to get them off, scrubbing my ass off doesnt work.

get the 3m adhesive remover. it'll take off most of those stains. make sure you wax the wheels afterwards. be careful, the fumes can make you feel a lil queasy.

What wax do you use to wax rims?

I soak my track wheels down in Formula 409 then take a sponge and scrub the heck out of them. After I have the junk off of them I use a good wax to shine them up. Takes about an hour to do all 4 wheels if they are off the car. For future track events you can spray a LIGHT coat of Pam (non stick cooking spray) on the wheels and the brake dust and marks will while right off. But make sure it is a LIGHT coat or you'll end up with goop everywhere. This is one time that less is more.

If the P.O. ran Hawk Blue pads, you are probably SOL. I've tried everything short of laquer thinner in mine. I've finally concluded that I like the "well used" look...

If you get the Hawk dust off right away you'll be fine. If you let it sit for a while, get rained on, and don't clean them for 2 weeks after your event, you're hosed. Hawk makes great pad material, but the downside is that you have to be proactive to cleanliness, not reactive.

Gotta stay on top of it. I wipe my wheels down between each session as part of my checklist. Try a light coat of Pam on the wheels, it'll buy you a bit of aditional time.

We have this stuff at work we call wheel Acid, and it is what it says. I wouldn't put it on chrome but it would be great for track wheels. We use it during the detail process of a used car. You can't leave the stuff on very long though. I will get you a name of the company who makes it on Monday.

Cool thanks, I even went out and got some of that Orange Glo stuff you see on TV, prepared for it to amaze me like the commercial, but I wasn't surprised when it didn't do too much :-p

Got them clean, just used a ScotchBrite pad, but it kinda hurt the clear coat of the wheels by doing that, oh well, thats why I paid $200 bucks.
