Does anyone know how to remove the shift knob on the 2004 SMG Z4? I want to put a Momo one in there instead.....

If it is like the other BMW shift knobs, it should just pull right off.

I've seen on other boards people have said they do just pull off. However, most said it takes some strong pulling to get them off. Probably want to have the top down when you try it, otherwise you might launch yourself through it when it comes off. :)

Don't worry about the top just position your forehead about a foot over the knob when you're pulling it off.

Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I will give that a shot as soon as I get my new shift knob in.

the shift knob mounts the same on all three shifters; manual, SMG, and Steptronic. Give it a good yank ...

Yeah...wear a helmet and give it a yank!!! :)

BTW...I recently posted about the Z4MC shift knob and what folks had tried as replacements. I ended up purchasing a bright yellow, solid aluminum OMP shift knob on clearance for $20 and it ROCKS!!! Install took a whooping 2-3 minutes. Very recommended.
