I'm looking for a chip for a '95 740i. I've heard of Dinan and been over at one of their install centers which is nearby. I've also heard many good things about Jim Conforti chips. Does Conforti do transmission chips as well? Does the Dinan trans chip require a Dinan engine chip to run correctly? Are there any other chips out there? Thanks and sorry for all the questions!

Dinan as far as I know is the only one. I think you may want to check into Alpina as well.

I cannot comment with confidence regarding the compatability of engine and tranny chips from different manufacturers. I have read many a comment that one chip is better than another, or that we all imagine that our chips make the car run better and that all chips are an expensive hoax. ---- But here is my two cents.
The engine chip changed the rpm at which my engine output is most nearly maximum as well as the rev limit. I installed the Dinan tranny chip months after the engine chip and am certain that both made a difference.
The tranny chip altered the shift points to match the altered engine management system. The tranny chip made more of a difference than the engine chip did, but without the engine chip first, the tranny chip would have been worthless. Now the engine runs up to the new higher rev limit and when the tranny shifts from the higher limit, it shifts into a higher output rpm range in the next gear.
I think, based on my experience that a matched set of chips makes more sense, but if you check the specs, engine output for the engine chip and and shift points for the tranny chip, I guess you could match chips up to suit your idea of perfection. I trusted Dinan to to that for me.

Boostless,
I have the Dinan transmission chip and currently the Stage 4 engine software which came with the larger Dinan MAS.
Although the Dinan products are pricey, they did improve the car's response and coupled with the 3.15:1 Dinan diff., my iL launches fast for such a large sedan.
I recommend the Dinan modifications, however they perform much better in concert with one another as a package, rather than one by one.
PS: Check out "Baby's" car site if you have some time to kill.:D

Awesome, thanks for all the info. I've spent most of my time on VW/Audi and just now gettin into the BMWs. I've been searchin all around for some performance 7 series "nuts". Finally found some!! :alright
Nice to see a 7 at the track. I've seen some S8's doin laps, but never thought I'd see a 7-series. They do handle great for a car its size so it only makes sense. Well thanks again to everyone that replied.
