View Full Version : My M3 vs. Mod S2000 and Mod WRX
badassm3 03-30-2004, 11:33 AM First the S2000:
Pulled into the right lane to make a right hand turn and noticed a new black S2000 Honda with the big exhaust pipes and racing stickers on the car in front of me. So being me, I caught up next to him and as soon as I was next to him he gunned it. I was in 2nd at about 3500 rpm and slammed it. From the moment I punched it he started losing car lengths. By the time I was at about 70mph. he was 3-5 car lenghts back. His exhaust was loud enough but his car just wasnt' fast enough. After punching the throttle all I remember seeing was a black S2000 in my rearview getting further and further away. I heard those cars were pretty quick but no comparison to German Engineering. God I love my car.
Second the WRX:
I've heard that the new WRX's all wheel drive lock up exceptionally well and are very quick. One evening I was cruising down a large open road and came up on a new WRX with exhaust and most liekly intake and maybe a larger turbo. We were next to each other at the light and he gave me the thumbs up to race so when the light turned green it was on. First gear wheel spin for me was minimal but definently there. I dropped the clutch at about 2900 RPM to avoid too much burn out. I had him off the line and was pulling on him in every gear. Whats amazing to me is how much of a "jump" the turbo gives at the end of each gear. As soon as the boost would kick in he would gain a few more feet on me. I had him by a half a car length up to about 80 mph. where we backed off. Another win for my car but that one was closer then normal. I have a lot more respect for WRX's now and look forward to racing a few more in the future.
Thats it. Peace.

Stock they are a drivers race against an E36M3 -- and even if one or the other screws the launch 5 cars is a bit much.

look at his mod list...he's got headers, cams, etc. I like s2000s but I seriously doubt they'd get close to a cammed M3.
cozmo kraemer 03-30-2004, 08:28 PM I think that the sig states that the Cams, headers and track pipe are "future mods" ... I have a 95 M3 with Euro HFM and exhaust and an S2000 and I are pretty dang close to eachother.... I pull slightly but not 5 cars by 70 mph, by any means.
Atl M3 03-30-2004, 08:38 PM The M3 and S2000 were rolling when they started the race. At about 3500 rpm the M3 is just beginning it's "sweet spot" in the torque range. My M3 pulls very strong from about 3,500 to the redlind. The S2000, on the other hand, does not come on strong until the VTECH kicks in at about 6,000 rpm. They are a little sluggish until 6K then pull very strong to the redline. So, I'm not surprised that the M3 got a good jump on the Honda. But, yes, on the street, it's a drivers race (most of the time).
GG///M3 03-30-2004, 09:27 PM i don't think the s2000 can your m3 with the mods u have. i've raced a few s2k's and have won every time :)
GG///M3 03-30-2004, 09:28 PM sorry beat your m3

So roughly between ... what, 35-70 you put 3-5 car lengths? hmm
Then you say the WRX sounded like it had an exhaust, probably a bigger turbo. What exactly are you basing this off of?
"... to avoid too much burn out."
Come on guys, you all are going way too easy on this guy. I know the folks here have better BS meters than this. I am not saying these races couldn't happen, just that they didn't. It's easy to tell when stories are made up for entertainment purposes, and that's what these are.

Its a good thing he didn't have the 2.4 Ghz VTECH mod, or you would have been owned. :D

I agree, there is no way an M-anything is going to put 3-5 car lengths on an S2000 in a race to 70mph from a roll unless the S2000 driver has his head up his 4ss and misses a shift or is in the wrong gear... which is likely as evidenced by the r1c3r tail pipez.
I know this from experience btw... since I just sold my S2000 after owning it for 3 years...

Awhile back an S2000 was following me a bit close and it appeared he wanted to play a bit. We were in traffic so neither of us could really do anything.
Finally...an opening occurred and he was ahead of me at this point. I signaled over into his lane and I could see him looking in his rear view mirror. At about 30mph....with me even being in 2nd gear....he punched it as I can see the smoke come out of his exhaust. I punched it too and I gained on him like he wasn't moving. I quickly changed lanes and went by him quite easily. Seemed like I had a good 3 to 4 cars on him. I took it up to around 75 or so. I slowed down and he went zooming by...he looked pissed.
Seems to me with the S2000....you need to launch really hard off the line to begin with. From a roll...it just lacks torque to keep up with many cars.
badassm3 03-31-2004, 10:25 PM First off...
I raced the S2000, he was 3-5 car lengths BEHIND by the time it was over. No matter what everyone says, thats what the deal was. It was from a rolling start and it was at the Sweet Spot of my RPM range. You also must keep in mind that the URI pulley makes the acceleration a bit quicker then stock.
And when I say about the WRX having a bigger turbo...That is just seomthing that came to mind. Whatever the car had it was quick and was a good race. Excuse my comment "bigger turbo"...i dunno what the F*ck he had but it was fast.
I wrote this just for enjoyment, not to have to come back and justify myself. And sorry to everyones suprise but the S2000 wasn't keeping up with me. It was 2,3,4,5,6 whatever car lengths behind, but the bottom line is it was behind. If S2000's are keeping up with ur M3's then maybe you need to do some modding. As far as it goes with me, this guys S2000 was lookin at my Tailights the entire time. And ur thinking, maybe he didn't get on it...well...hearing his loud ass exhaust at WOT and light smoke out the exhaust can only mean one thing...we has on it.
And to Rob Nance:
You can kiss my ass for saying these stories were for entertainment. Im a BMW owner and have had the cars in my family since I was born. For you to sit on here and say im lying is ridiclous. You don't know me. Why would I waste my time? I saw kill stories and decided to put the two races I have encountered in the past couple of months. GET OVER IT. No lying, just facts.
Everyone else, appreaciate you reading, and sorry for having to point fingers. WHen people accuse you of things and have no idea who you are and what ur about it gets aggrevating.
mattjw916 04-01-2004, 12:18 AM There is no question your guys modded E36s and stock 46s are faster... the point I was making is that the drivers were lacking in skill a bit there.
I never raced any Bimmers of any kind since they are few and far between here but my successful races against a variety of other vehicles lead me to believe that there is no way you would get 3-5 car lengths on me in a sub-quarter mile race... but I guess we will never know since I sold it. :D
SilverStreak 04-01-2004, 09:41 AM "You can kiss my ass"
You were doing so well up to that point. People can express opinions here without resorting to flaming one another. You have yourself to thank for getting your own post locked....
