View Full Version : I got smoked... time to mod
3rdone 03-29-2004, 02:44 AM I was on my way to my cousins house and I was sitting at a light listening to some tunes and this stang pulls up next to me. Two younger guys that had this sort of grin on their faces. I look over at the car to get an inventory of what he may or may not have. The car was loud as hell so exhaust got a check mark and the engine sounded a little more aggresive so something under the hood also. I took a good look at the driver and he looked like he just got the car yesterday...I almost started laughing. The light goes green and we both happened to be making a left turn onto 281. 281 turns into interstate about a mile up. I slowly turn and shift like a normal person and this dude gets on it a little to show me he wants to play. I gun it to get beside him and I try to slow down to around 50 so we ca get a good go at it. He refused to slow down so I had to race him from 65. We both look at each other and nod and we both floor it. I had to start in third, at the weak point of the car since 65 is the begining of third gear. He pulls HARD. I mean this thing pulled like no GT I have ever raced. I shift to 4th and this guy is 3 cars out at least. I just shut it down because ther was no hope in catching him although in fourth I did stop the bleeding a little the 3 car gap stayed there. I pull up next to him and we have a meaningful conversation at 60mph. I said there is no way that is stock. He said no it isn't. I asked if he pulled that hard on stock stangs and said yeah pretty much. He asked me what I had and I said it's stock. I never get pulled on that hard from a stock stang. He said yeah i pull on them pretty hard too. The exhaust is what makes all the difference he says, it really opens them up. We gave each other a thumbs up and gave deserving compliments on the cars and went our separate ways. It felt bad to get it handed to you like that though... :( geeez!!!!
AndrewM3 03-29-2004, 02:49 AM The exterior of American Cars do not serve them justice. Don't under estimate a Mustang regardless the model. Then again, you woulda taken him in the twisties! - Do some BPU (Basic Performance Upgrades) such as a chip, exhaust, intake, and pipes. That'll give your car not only a nice mean sound, but it'll drive like a totally different car yet still with that distinct BMW feel.
You'll get em' next time,
Andrew :D
3rdone 03-29-2004, 03:08 AM just how fast is the aa turbo m3? what do you compare it to?
AndrewM3 03-29-2004, 03:23 AM Faster then an E46 M3 and being able to keep up with a 03' Cobra SVT till 130 or so. Pending the driver of course. AA Turbo M3 roughly puts 280/290 to the wheels and roughly 340 to the flywheel. You're probably thinking now why so many people stick with BMW and why I'd spend $7,500 on a turbo to get onpar with a factory Stang. BMWs main highlights is interior, suspension yet being high up in the ranks as far as performance is concerned. Being behind the wheel of a BMW is like driving no other as far as everything is concerned - Handling, feel, sound, everything.
An avid BMW nut,
Andrew :stickoutt
SilverStreak 03-29-2004, 12:07 PM Me thinks you finally ran a GT with a driver who knew what he was doing, and may have had some bolt ons, like gears....
Armo95 03-29-2004, 02:37 PM One word: Gears. ;)
3rdone 03-29-2004, 03:24 PM Me thinks you finally ran a GT with a driver who knew what he was doing, and may have had some bolt ons, like gears....
The guy looked like he was 19. Anyway the driver wasn't even the owner of the car, the passenger was. I have raced one too many Gts to know that this one was not stock. You see in San Antonio,Tx hispanics love the Gt and this town is 67% hispanic (I know this because I am in advertising) so there is a ton of them out there. I seriously doubt that everyone I have run into can't drive their car. This stang was just flat out fast. It kind of reminded me of the mach 1. I am not trying to sterotype but The people here love them to death. Can you blame them though?
3rdone 03-29-2004, 03:25 PM One word: Gears. ;)
Do you mean I should get gears, or that he had gears?
Armo95 03-29-2004, 03:27 PM Do you mean I should get gears, or that he had gears?
He had gears. Gears + Mustangs= Deadly. More than likely he was a good driver too if he was shifting that well...

do gears on the 328is make a difference? Is it worth the buy?
SilverStreak 03-29-2004, 03:31 PM Yeah, like I said, he likely had bolt ons and age be damned, he knew how to drive. I was a decent drag racer at 19, cuz I was at the track twice a week every week....

depending on the ratio, figure 1-3 tenths gained in the 1/4 mile ET with gears in your car...

SilverStreak 03-29-2004, 04:28 PM One word: paragraphs. :)
... multiple paragraphs, makes for a much easier read....
surfacewound 03-29-2004, 04:38 PM lordjavelox described the AA stage 1 turbo. The Stage II turbo delivers roughly 360rwhp, putting it well into Z06 territory.
But the kit costs as much as a new Hyundai. :D
4-BNGR 03-29-2004, 04:39 PM Dave-
I hope you make a wise decision and get this little "gem" http://www.atpturbo.com/root/monstermate/bmw3ser.htm

Dip into the home equity line if you have to :D This kit can make "stupid" power!!!
4-BNGR 03-29-2004, 04:41 PM That kit would kick 99% of those Pony's back to the stable...
fortysix 03-29-2004, 04:42 PM depending on the ratio, figure 1-3 tenths gained in the 1/4 mile ET with gears in your car...
What gear differential would you have to switch to for gains of .3 of a second? Someone had told me that the average gains are around .05-.1, which doesn't sound worth the money. Guess they were wrong then.
SilverStreak 03-29-2004, 04:43 PM The ZHP will remain close to stock, it's my business car, it's leased, etc... The used "whatever" I pick up later will be made "stupid fast" however.... used M Coupe, used Mach1, who knows....
Apex E36 03-29-2004, 04:43 PM The Stang most likely had gears if he wouldnt slow down to 50 from 65, so he must have been in his sweet spot Im guessing.
No harm in losing sometimes, just gives the mod bug a bigger bite :D

Depends, going from a 2.93 to a 3.73 will get you 3 tenths for sure, if you can get traction.
Going from a 3.07 to a 3.15 might get you 0.05....
Apex E36 03-29-2004, 07:08 PM S54 M Coupe, Dave? ;)
SilverStreak 03-30-2004, 10:15 AM Maybe.... or an S52 + forced induction on a stroker.... :evil2
Apex E36 03-30-2004, 01:53 PM Or maybe AA's S54 blower? :D
SilverStreak 03-30-2004, 02:38 PM S54 + forced induction = crap shoot, and I'm done gambling for a while... :D
Apex E36 03-30-2004, 07:10 PM Hehe, we all know you'll drive whatever you get as hard as physically possible. :evil2
Sorry for jacking your thread 3rdone.
BoostFed325 04-01-2004, 06:44 AM cant go wrong with a m coupe or mach1
you have to be careful around vettes and rustanks here in SA. Look up murillo motorsports. Vipers and vettes are very dangerous around here. If you see a Black M roadster with NH plates gimme a wave.
BlkDinanM3 04-03-2004, 12:23 AM Top end on Mach 1(s) and Cobra(s) are vicious! GEARs!
alanhenson 04-03-2004, 04:42 AM I was in San Antonio last year in My 01 M3 and I raced an aprox. 99' stang with heads, cam, intake, exhaust, pulleys, and gears. All the bolt ons. He was dead even with me during several races. He was fast I must admit, but he spent alot. If he had done the same to a 5.0 instead of a 4.6 he would have eaten my lunch. Those 5 liters are so easy to make ridiculously fast. I rode in an 8 second mustang with 1300Hp and it was seriously frightening.

Come to Houston and see the Vettes from Motorsport Technologies or the Hennessey Vipers. I Raced(if that's what you can call it) a 1000hp twin turbo vette in my M3. What a joke that was. It was fun to see him run though.
