View Full Version : CHECK BADGES (535i vs M coupe)
dinan535i 03-27-2004, 06:45 PM I'll make this short because it wasnt a very good race for me. I saw a newer BMW coupe sitting at a light with some kid in it listening to hardcore punk music. I was thinking okay here is some kid in daddy's car out for a drive, maybe i can teach him a lesson. I don't know alot about BMW Z series and this M coupe so i thought that maybe it was a 2.5 or 2.8 6 cylinder that i might be able to handle (ive beaten the 2.8 z3 from a roll). Anyway the light turns green and i gun it right away and gain like 2 car lengths, I didn't really know what to think cause i cant even pull on the slowest Z's like that. I knew somethin was up and before that thought left my mind i saw those head lights come knocking at my door step real quick. I was still goin WOT now goin about 55 as he came even with me for an instant and then instantly starting taking me for a nice little walk. I can't say i like the styling of those compared to other M models but damn they are fast. And im guessing of course that this was stock because im almost positive it was just some kid out joyriding in his dads car.

that stereotype is old ... even my 19yrs old friend is driving his own 360 Modena (the pink slip is under his name). ;)
on a friday 03-27-2004, 08:29 PM m-coupes are no joke. you lost, and he wasn't even racing at first.
dinan535i 03-27-2004, 09:03 PM yea i forgot to mention the fact that i knew that he let me get a big head start. I thought of that after i posted my story. But yea i knew that his plan was to let me go and reel me in as soon as i saw him start to pull so hard in my rearview.
EmDeeh 03-27-2004, 11:41 PM no offense motor...but I'm sure every penny of the car he earned since he was 18? yeah right...
anyhow nice try din but those z series are faster than you'd think he probably just wanted to check out your car before he hit the gas ;P but your car is still a nice ride.
take care - md in cali

who cares? if it's under your name, it's yours no matter how you got it ... something that you think you can't afford does not mean others can't afford.
peace
ps: come <b><a href="http://www.germantechnik.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7086">here</a></b> to see what I'm talking about.
dinan535i 03-28-2004, 06:51 PM hey Motor, yea it may be under his name, which means that its his car. But guess what, that doesnt mean that the 19 year old kid could afford it. It simply means that Daddy or whoever else wanted to front the money did. So yes you just helped me in proving my point that alot of people drive around in cars that they didnt pay for whether it be an M coupe or a ferrari.
desi_m3 03-28-2004, 06:55 PM Dude m coupes are quick as hell.
What were u thinking?

your point isn't any good though. yes, a lot of people have cars bought for them and yes a lot of people buy their own cars.
who cares. don't be jealous just becuase he was listening to punk rock.
them darned youngins and their punk rock.
M Roady 03-28-2004, 09:00 PM Nice death! You'd take him in the....uhm....uh...cargo space? ;)
No wonder people get shocked to hell by the Roadster when even another bimmer driver (enthusiast?) doesn't recognize the Coupe as a serious contender.
crotter 03-28-2004, 10:19 PM what are the specs of an m coupe compared with say an e46 m3?
desi_m3 03-28-2004, 10:24 PM what are the specs of an m coupe compared with say an e46 m3?
3.2 L, with 315hp and 215lb of torque.
Ofourse, these specifications are for the m coupe. :D
QuestMCoupe 03-28-2004, 11:07 PM From what I hear, the S52 Roadsters and Coupes are just a tad behind the e46 M3s when racing...I have yet to find an e46 M3 willing to run though to prove this, but I do believbe an S54 M Roadster or Coupe will beat an e46 M3 in a straight line race because it's lighter.
Not sure which motor that Coupe had you raced but like everyone said, the M Roasters and Coupes are no joke...S52 or S54.

The S54 Coupe is pretty even with an E46 M3. BMW should've made the M Coupe faster, but the gearing isn't as aggressive as the E46 M3. The M3's gearing offsets the weight advantage by the M coupe. With different gearing though, I know the coupe would rape an M3.

I wouldn't want to tangle with an E46 M3 on the highway. Well, I would want to tangle but I wouldn't be shocked if the M3 broke out the leash pretty quick.
dave1126 03-29-2004, 04:09 PM It depends on how hard the roadster driver pushes it. :D

All, please, don't ever judge a kid driving an BMW saying "he's obviously got rich parents" or any crap like that. I am only 21 and I have had a 1969 VW Beetle, 1957 Chevrolet Belair, 1967 Sunbeam Alpine(still have), 2001 Honda civic(still have), and a 1995 BMW M3(still have). The only car my parents ever helped out with was the 69 Beetle which cost all of $900 and they paid half. I work very hard for my money which supports my car habit and I am sure this kid who was driving his M Coupe worked hard for his car as well. He probably isn't even a kid, I know everyone who doesn't know me would guess I am younger then I really am. Just be aware that there is a possibility of these drivers actually owning their cars.

E24_635csi 03-29-2004, 10:57 PM dinan535i - you got any pics? I've always had somethin for the E34 styling.
Ben Carufel 03-29-2004, 11:02 PM Hey, I listen to punk rock! And I'm 19!
Drifter 03-30-2004, 02:56 AM ^ LoL
It's about maturity. If the kid is mature, then who cares? It's only annoying if the kid is some idiot who treats his gift like crap. But it wasn't too mature of you to pick a fight with a kid just because he has a car that you assumed his parents bought for him. I know a mature kid accross my street who has an E36 M3 and his parents did buy it for him. So what? He treats it like he bought it himself (cleans it, services it, babies it, doesn't abuse it) and thats all that matters. People only bash kids with expensive cars for one of two reasons:
1) They're jealous because at half their age, some kid is driving a car twice as expensive. So what? How a kid or how that kid's parents spend their money is none of your business.
2) They assume that the kid doesnt deserve it. Who's to judge who deserves this and who deserves that?
I'm done. :)
Luftwaffe1O1 04-18-2004, 10:52 PM Im 21 as well, and i bought my 98 M3, as in i paid for it. You'd be surprised, there aer a lot of employment opportunities for younger people, especially internships at large companies, like intel for instance pays their interns about $25 per hour etc. So you can't always assume young people are poor, especially if its a 20 year old living at home with a good job, like in my case, it allows me to pay for a nicer car isntead of rent :)

Correct. I spent some time on the freeways this past weekend with an E46M3. That car accelerated crazy fast at those speeds. Hella strong up top
