View Full Version : Spooked an SRT

I was killing time cruising along the surface sreets of Baton Rouge when I noticed a be-winged Neon at a light. A quick left turn and I pulled in behind him in the left turn lane and gave little rev in hopes of a quick run.

For those of you familiar with BR, this is where Nicholson starts under the Mississippi River Bridge. It's a near hair pin turn to get on N'son and then a quick two-lane squiggle before it straightens out into drag heaven.

The light turned and he took off all a-blaze engine screaming --I followed and quickly drew even in the curves. Looking over, his window down and ball cap in the aerodynamic position, I gave a wicked grin and punched it. I got the drop on him and gained a cl before he showed any real acceleration, but then I pulled away (too) fast. In my rearview I saw him stop and whip a graceless u-turn and head the other way!

Damn. I would have waited for him too. :(

Maybe you are unfamiliar with the SRT-4?

It beats my car in hp and torque (230 peak horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque to my 195/206)

Might not have anything on your M3 but I have a little 'ol 328 :)

No man, dont get me wrong.
Iam just expressing my total disregard for dodge cars.
Didnt mean to come off as an obnoxious bmw owner.
And yes, you are right, iam not really familiar with the horsepower the srt4 delivers.

Ahh, OK :)

And it's actually quite alright to be an 'obnoxious BMW owner' --I would still take my BabyM over a Neon on steroids :D

hello stunnas,
the srt-4 will beat a stock e36 m3 (so any stock, close to stock e36) in straight line racing.

magazines have confirmed that the '04 srt-4 can run the 1/4 in 13.9 @103
and the srt boards have confirmed mid to high 13s (which is usually faster than the magazine and forum times for the e36 m3)

My magazine ran high 12s on slicks! :stickoutt

hell yeah, the launch is where they "can't hang" thus the 13.9 @ 103.....

if it was like 13.9 @ 99-100, then it could launch..

from a roll m3s and the guy above should be TOAST>

he prolly ran the 130hp one with a badge.

If I understood Baby's story correctly then the 328 beat the SRT-4 in the turns, which is totally possible. Maybe Mr. Aerodynamics had the SRT in a higher gear through the turns so as not to accidentally get a sudden rush of boost from the turbo and crash in a ditch. By the time the straight came, the 328 was in the right gear to pull away while the SRT was struggling to get the boost up. Seen it, lived it!

it looks like you guys dunno what you are talking about...she said he lead her at first off from the light then she caught up and overtook him in the curves. maybe he let up some; I have no idea how well srt-4's corner..but I do know how well bimmers corner and his had better be a demon to keep up.

nice job nonetheless most people won't run a car they know stocks more hp.

take care - md in cali

Thanks BGM3 and EmDeeh!

You other guys, OUCH!!!

I'm well aware that I would be relatively easy prey in a drag race for an SRT-4. If you read a little closer, I said I got up to him in the curves and then got the drop on him. I was ahead when he started his real acceleration and then he QUIT before he got up to me. It's as though he changed his mind midway through. Please don't call BS without reading the story. It would be silly for me to say I would beat that car in a straight line.

silly of me, i assumed it was "drag heaven"...

so even if u did beat it in the twisties it would PWN u at the "drag heaven"

GOOD KILL nonetheless!

It was a tease. He got me all excited like he was going to race and then left me hanging. I suppose it could be a kill if you counted me stuffing him in the curves :stickoutt

Nice kill. A kill in the twisties rocks :buttrock

All you wankers need to learn how to read. Baby never claimed to have beaten him on the straight.

SRT-4's are QUICK. I sell cars at our local dodge dealership.

However, There is no doubt in my mind that a good driver of a 325 or 328 could take them in the corner if they know what the hell they're doing.

just cuz you beat him in the twisties doesnt mean your car handles better (though it might)

When it comes to the twisties, a minivan driver can outhandle a cooper driver, mainly because its all about the driver at that point. Too many variables come into play when it comes to the twisties

 had it been me, I would have raced you through the twisties, The '04 SRT has EXCELLENT handling.. I race with bimmers all the time, most of my buddies own them. Too bad the guy sucked at driving and didn't have the balls to drive with you, I would have given you a nice show :D

everyone here should be familiar with the infamous "AMG" title on various mercedes.

Well, the same people who have a say in Mercede's AMG program also have a say in Dodges SRT program. Expect great things in the future

most people that own stock SRT's are still learning to drive them probably, or, they have an '03.. they're not really made for the 1/4 anyway. I'm much happier/faster on a road course.. next time i goto Summit Point, I'm going to run the car for a few laps, see what I can do :D
