i am getting rib of my ghetto box with 2 10" subs,. they sucked etc,.. they were some no name generic brand,. (zeus) from chinatown NYC,. hahaha
i fell into some money and decided to go a more stealth route,..
how about this,. i want to do 1 12" sub - not decided yet,. and make a custom box to fit against my rear seats. I have a 4dr with the ski hole punched out.

so the question is- can i get one good 12"sub, and build a really narrow box as long as its built to proper cubic feet etc.. i need to have more trunk space,.( my main issue)
will it work properly even though its really narrow.

i need 1 good sub that runs well by itself, anything recommended will be considered,. also what kind of amp should i be running to power it,.wattage wise
( im looking to spend about 200ish, possibly less if i need too)
( im looking for the most thump for the money)

i have a sony explode amp that i have around the house, it is 150x2 would i be able to use this one instead of buying a new one( or should i try and use this toward a front component set that i will be getting in a lil bit?) or will that be too much power?
(again, dont wanna spend money that i dont need to)
also since the sub is a 2 channel one, would it sufficiently run the new 12"? is there any way to not make it a 2 channel? etc, bridging it,.or whatever its called i dont know what this means but a car stereo shop mentioned this. any help on this would be appreciated too!

any input, suggestions will be appreciated,
but the thing is i need to build a box, that is somewhat narrow, and not being able to use most of my trunk space really bothers the hell out of me. i have a cousin with a woodshop that will help me make the box, cutting etc. just need to do the measurements with it. so thats not a problem
this electronic stuff is what really confuses the hell out of me.

thanx

ok here's what i suggest
for $200 i'd go with either a O series ED 12" sub
http://www.edesignaudio.com/ep2/12o.htm

or a RE 12" SE
www.respl.com
Both require around 1-1.5 cubic feet of box
dont narrow the box TOO much, its not wise to have the magnet
of the sub very close to the back of the box, leave it some room
but not too much

and use a jbl 600.1 amp (also good for the money) ~180

Sony amps are POS imo, just use them for your components up front,
or sell it on ebay and get a new one

hope that helps

Awesome suggestions. ive used the SE's and their AMAZING for the price. Both the SE and O are close in performance to teh JL w6v2. A little better in some aspects..
Btw-did u mean u wanted to spend 200 on both amp/sub or 200 on just sub. then m

I am selling an Elemental Designs e12a with a custom box (1.0 cubic rec) for $200 plus shipping. The e12a is top of the line from what these guys are talking about above and takes the least amount of space.

btw, pics are located here:

The one thing I can add is that you need a lot of power to properly drive your sub, whatever brand it is.

I now believe that no 12" sub sounds decent until you start feeding it at least 300-500W RMS. Of course, there might be super efficient drivers out there that need only 100-200W. My current sub is rated 170-350W RMS but truly did not start working as designed until I switched from the former sub amp (120 x1 @ 4 ohms) to my current mono amp (1000 x1 @ 2 ohms). No, I'm not saying everyone needs to go out and buy a monster amp. But IMO you can't get the super low frequency extension without serious power. No matter what brand of high quality sub you end up getting.

(And what possessed you to buy subs in a flea market?)

Eazy -

Just curious, but why are you selling your eD A? And what will you get to replace it?

i am selling it because i need the money for a tattoo i'm getting. once you get yourself into an e12a, there's no other 12" sub that can totally replace it. there are other top notch brands, and each one has its strengths: JL W7, Brahma, XXX, Image Dynamics.... IMO, once you get yourself into the elite brands of 12" subs, it's more of a give and take, and no one of them are truly better than the others...

Oh, sounds painful. (Selling off a good speaker.) Thanks. I was looking at the eD A until others on these boards told me to look into the W6V2 and the W7. Haven't bought either yet but am looking to pick up a W6V2 soon.

try doing some research on www.elitecaraudio.com and see what other audiophiles are saying about the e12a vs. the 12W7. the e12a is more on par with the 12W7 than the w6v2.
