Hello, I haven't really posted much lately because I've been posting on roadkill and dtm.

Who else is here?

James, have you ever posted a pic of your M3? I would like to see pictures of it sometime.

Yes, they're on the Bimmer Rides forum. The front bumper needs new paint (actually, most of the car does) but I'm not interested in cosmetics, yet. Check it out....

James, are those the 16" wheels? If so, where did you get them from?

She looks great! I would like to see some pics of the carbon fibre wing when you get pictures of it.

Yeah, Bry, those are 16" wheels. I bought a set of 7 from a guy in Michigan last year. I got the best 4 and slapped some good and cheap Kumho 712's on them, 225/45/16. They stick out 7mm more than the original M3 16" wheels, but 16" M3 wheels are even harder to find (and more expensive) than E28 M5 wheels. I currently have Alpina 16x7 and 16x8 on my M5, and I just dropped it with Ground Control coil-overs yesterday. It looks awesome and is rock solid now. I'll get pics of it maybe on Tuesday when the weather warms up a tad....

Cheers!

how far out is your evo 3 front splitter?

Bry
01-22-2002, 09:59 PM
James, I need to ask you a question on suspension. Could I get Konis for the M3 in a sport single adjustable? How stiff would the ride be?

Thanks!

Bav///Man
01-23-2002, 02:26 AM
you can adjust the stiffness of the Koni adjustables...right?

JamesM3M5
01-23-2002, 12:08 PM
The splitter is set in position 4. First position is with the splitter completely retracted and right-side-up. Next position is one notch out (about 1.5 inches) and third is all the way out. Fourth position you invert the splitter. This way it angles the lip downward a few degrees to give a slight "angle of attack", further enhancing the downforce.

Bry, I would recommend Konis over Bilsteins. The Bilstein Sports are pretty stiff, and are best suited for German roads that are not the bumpy, pothole-ridden surfaces we have to deal with. I have stock Boges on my M3 because I don't want to fork out the cash for new shocks, yet. They are still OK with my stock springs. Koni single-adjustables are a great street/track shock. They are adjustable for rebound damping, but not for compression. You have to compress the shock all the way, then turn to adjust the damping. This means you have to dismantle the front strut if you want to change it. You have to do the same on the rear, but it's a lot less work. Konis are softer than Bilsteins on their softest setting, but you can harden them up with a twist of the shock. See Gustave Stroes' website:

http://www.e30m3performance.com/installs/GC_susp/GC_susp1.htm

Koni also sells single and double-adjustable shocks where the adjustment is on top of the shock shaft. Much easier to dial in the damping just by opening the hood vs taking the suspension apart. These are obviously more expensive.

I am biased against Tokico and KYB because they are cheap and very stiff. You get what you pay for. Racers trust adjustable Konis, custom valved Bilsteins, Advance Design, and other shocks that cost $400 each and up. Spax and JRZ racing shocks allow 3 or even 4 adjustments along with gas preload and remote reservoirs.

I am going to purchase Advance Design shocks when my budget (that is, my wife) will allow me. They are double adjustable from the top, and you can even set the gas pressure. They are user-rebuildable, but that seems to be a moot point since no one wears them out very quickly, not even racers.

Okay. Where would I find a good place to get the konis? I have seen some places, but I don't really understand their products.

How much more expensive are the single adjustables over the regulars?

Not to be a hater, but I have to ask why would you, as an E30 owner, visit bimmerforums.com ? In the past month, there are like 6 threads in the M3 section, and 2 in the non-M3s section. Not exactly the most happenin' place in the E30 world.

You mentioned e03sport.com - this is the main page for http://e30sport.zeroforum.com It works just like DTM: a main page and the forums. The main page is still a couple weeks away, but it will definitely have the best and most updated E30 content on the internet.

Please support an E30 upstart site like E3S by posting at the forums.

So you join BF.C and this is your first post? Come on! Rob already said he visits the E30sport boards. Thanks for adding the extra side of spam.

Why do we even hang out here?? Because there's more to E30 ownership than just reading about E30s. I find the BF.C crowd to be well mannered, intelligent (for the most part, there are always bad apples), and I feel that I can help or receive help from the other members. That's why. It is also well moderated to keep out trolls and haters.
Would you like it if I asked everone on e30sport why do they even bother when bmwe30.net has been up for years?

No, I didn't think so.

I also get most of my E30 info from the E30 M3 SIG mailing list at bimmers.com. It's highly technical and nearly 100% E30 M3 specific.

Bry

Danny, I must say, I come here, and there may not be too much discussions going on. I am a member of the M3 Sig as James is, and it is extremely technical, I can get any questions answered there. I do find this board to be a lot of help too.

Hi Mark S. I haven't seen you in a while. How has your M3 been?

dannyB
01-26-2002, 08:10 PM
LOL. First off, I am not a "spammer." I first joined BF.C last year during the early summer. The E30 discussion was quite lacking, so I spent most of my time at DTM. When I did come here I was mostly a lurker, not too much to respond too, really.

Less and less I came here, and after the multiple crashes I stopped completely. To be honest I don't remember your name from last year.

I posted this as an opportunity for E30 owners to visit a board that is all about E30's. We're just getting started, but the main page will be up soon and will have constantly updated technical features, car of the month, E30 history articles, etc.

The M3 SIG is great, I don't doubt that. But it doesn't offer the "forum" aspect, you must admit that. To be honest, most of your post is pretty close-minded. Imagine if the first internet site for BMW's was the only one around. Noone else could challenge it, because it was the first. Make any sense? Didn't think so...

Bry
01-27-2002, 04:23 PM
I've actually been here since Bimmerforums first started. The forum crashes were a pain, but I got over them.

None of this pertains to e30's... I don't even know why I'm posting this.

Bry - my comments as far as not "remembering you" were directed toward JamesM3M5, not you. In fact, I definitely remember you, and was glad when you started posting at DTM.

Please do make sure you check out the new E30 site.

Danny, don't you think it is in poor taste for you to advertise and promote your message board on this message board?

Bob ///M3

dannyB
01-31-2002, 01:31 PM
Absolutely not. Please explain how it is in poor taste? Like I said, is there some rule I'm not aware of that only 1 site pertaining to each car brand is allowed?

I have been a member of this board since last summer. I would think that would entitle me to post here. The E30 discussion is lacking on bimmerforums, so I let the few E30 owners here know about another option.

Sad to see this place going down the tubes, really.

Bob ///M3
01-31-2002, 02:01 PM
Danny, we don't have a "rule" that that says owners or representatives of other message boards aren't allowed to promote their sites here on Bimmerforums.com however it's not a gentlemanly thing to do...and is in poor taste in my opinion! It's like an owner of a Honda dealership going into a Toyota dealership and telling all their customers that they should go visit his Honda dealership down the road...

I'm sorry you feel slighted by me bringing this topic to your attention. I also hate to hear that you feel Bimmerforums.com is "going down the tubes"! I happen to disagree...

Bob - I don't want to mak a huge deal out of this, but surely your analogy is a bit off. BF.C definitely has a big following among the E36 and E46 crowd, I won't argue that.

But when there is 1 active thread in non-M E30 and 5 in the M3 section, it tells me that E30 discussion just ain't happening here. If I had gone to the General Discussion and posted my "advertisement" that might be in bad taste. But I didn't - it was posted in the appropriate forum.

Did I go to a Honda site and start advertising E30Sport? No. I did however go to VWVortex.com and made a post in the Car Lounge. They were very receptive to the post and quite a few registered.

It's kinda funny that DTM had no problem with me posting my "ads" for E30Sport. In fact, they were so kind as to sticky it in the E30 Tech forum.

Good luck - I hope everything continues to go well here, Bob. I would have hoped that you returned the wish for my upstart website.

Bry
01-31-2002, 10:33 PM
Danny, this is a forum for E30 M3's. Please PM Bob if you would like to talk to him.

Danny, Bob isn't saying anything bad about your advertising. I agree, it is bad taste to advertise web space. We aren't saying to take it down, it's just not the nice thing to do.

Bob ///M3
01-31-2002, 10:41 PM
Danny, I do wish you luck for your new upstart message board. I appreciate the hard work that goes into making any message board prosper and grow. I still think it is in poor taste that you have come to a message board that already has a E30 forum to promote your site...regardless of the number of posts being made here. It's not like we don't already have a E30 forum ourselves! And we, like you, would like for the activity to increase. You do acknowledge we have a forum dedicated for E30s and our intent is to increase the activity too? It seems pretty basic understanding to me.

You might already know that we here at Bimmerforums.com are more than willing to help any other message board in most any way we can but a line must be drawn somewhere when it comes to another message board's owner promoting their site with the obvious express "intent" to convert our members to their site. You have noticed that you still have the link to your website in your signature. That's fine! We just don't want you to explicitly "promote" it... It's simply too much "in-your-face"!
