hey i am installing an Alpine headunit for someone in a 325i 1992. I took out the factory headunit with anti theft and i bought a bmw harness that goes from the original harness, and i bought another harness that goes from the bmw harness to the back of the alpine. I also got a radio adaptor, everything works on the radio but then i put in a CD the CD doesnt play, it looks like its playing but no sound is coming out....

the radio pays though correct?

this is a very common problem... just switch the blue wires on the harnesses. it is wired that the remote out for the amp from the radio is only on when the radio is on and the antenna output is always on when the radio is (antenna and rem just mixed up) switch them around and you will be on your way


btw - did you get the "smart harnesses" from CC?

there are 2 blue wires that come from the alpine harness that connect to the bmw harness (1 for the antenna turn on, and the other to turn on the factory amp "remote wire")

they need to be reversed or if not copmbined seperately and copnnected to 1.

iirc there may be only 1 blue wire in the bmw harness so you will have to connect these without using the harness. just cut the 2 alpine wires seperatley, strip the wires, connect them and either use butt connectors or solder them to the blue wire for the factory amp in your car

The power antenna wire does not even have to be connected...the BMW's antenna automatically turns on with the amp. That wire is usually for cars that have the retracting/extending antennas.
