Please check out the link and tell me which pair of 5.25's you'd recommend. I am going the cheap route by adding a head unit and the 5.25" fronts for now. Then, I'll do either rear 6x9's (will they have enough bass?), or some JL Stealthboxes.

EDIT: I'd rather not spend the kinda cash those JBL's are, freakin $180 for a pair

Thanks. Also, you guys should know that I'm not buying an amp. I'll just use my new head unit to power them. Most HU's I've looked at offer around 20 watts RMS, so I probably won't ned any of those 5.25's that hold like 50-80 watts RMS.

Get yourself a set of 5.25 componets for the front stage of the car. Infinity Perfects rock..

well head units put out no where near the power they claim. Powering speakers off a head unit isnt ideal, but will work fine. dont worry too much about the ratings. Something like the kappas will work fine. I actually really suggest u grab some CDT's. check thezeb.com they always have awesome stuff for the price.

I was about to put in my .02 worth until I read about your power limitations. If you have even 40W RMS per channel, I would recommend Focal Polyglas, Focal Utopias, or just about anything MB Quart. If you have only the power from a built-in amp, maybe Infinity, JBL, Kenwood, or Alpine. I can't recommend one brand over another since some people like bright and others don't. It's a matter of personal preference. But most anything sounds so much better than the stockers.

I used to have MB Quarts and they seemed too bright for my tastes. Which speakers would be a little less harsh than the quarts? Also, if you guys have time, what kind of head unit do you recommend for $150-$200 bucks off of crutchfield.com? I used to have an Alpine 7874 or something like that, and it had the coolest Amber background, which matched the stock BMW interior pretty well. Are there any head units you can think of that light up amber and look relatively stock? Also, how are the Blaupunkt's for quality/sound?

Thanks again guys. :)

I didn't think crutchfield's prices were that bad. Thezeb is ok, I've bought from them before, but none of their pics show up for their products, they don't even sell Alpine, and their prices don't seem any better than other places I've checked out. So CDT is a good speaker company? They have some insanely expensive shit though, wow!

The other nice thing about Crutchfield is that they give you free wiring harness adaptors and other needed supplies to install their stuff. Plus, they give install instructions for those of us beginners. :)

Alpine Type - R Components . - These are pretty crispy and loud.
Infinity - Just pure loud. Does not come close to how alpine matches clarity and Crispy highs
The Rockfords would be my 3rd choice.

out of all of those i would get the alpine type R.i like loud clarity.

although if i had a choice. i would rather go with something LOUD yet WARM.
MB Quart R series.
If those mb quarts are to bright.

then dont even touch the alpine.

Go with Diamond Audio M6.

if u have found good prices on crutchfield, then hell, order from em. theyr a great company ive just found everything on there to be a rip off. I bought my cda-7995 of there because they were having a clearance on it since it was being discontinued and i got a sick deal on it and it came with free wiring harness/antenna adapter and shipping and instructions and all that so it was great.
CDT is good stuff, theyr expensive speakers are the component sets. they make really high end stuff.
