Well, I had 330xi as a loaner a couple weekends back. I wanted to test it out you know? So, I was on my way to pick up a date, she lives about 45 minutes away, so I had plenty of time to play around on the freeway. First race, I saw xeon lights comming behind me fast, probably 100+, so I shifted it into tiptronic. The car blew by me, it was a Mercedes SL500, I immediatly downshifted and came up even with it. The driver of the SL500 and I meet eyes and nod, haha the "racing nod", we both gun it. He jumped about 2 car lengths on me, but I started to pull, slowly but surely I saw him in my rear view mirror. Afterwards he pulled up next to me and waved, I waved back and then I took my exit. On the way to the resturuant an evo and a wrx were taunting me, I wanted to go, but my date kept on yelling in my ear - so I backed off. After I dropped her off, I picked up my friend.. 2 mustangs were already racing, so we jumped in too. 1 was red and the other was white.. the white one was slightly behind, I down shifted and raped him, however the red was fast. But, not fast enough I got the car up to abouit 135 and then the governer kicked in, but by then the red mustang was nowhere to be seen. My friend wanted to drive, so I let him - and this is the story all of you have probably come here to read. We pull up on this road industrial it's a straight run for about 3 miles, there were no cars on the road. All of a sudden a modded blue 350z pulls up next to us, it's on! We go at it, he jumped on us like crazy, we pull a little after 100, the car peaked out again at 135, but he still beat us. We slow down and take turn, but we both notice headlights a mile or 2 behind us - we thought nothing of it. We were about to hop on the freeway to go home, when 3 cop cars flash us down. So, we pull into this parking lot, 1 more cop car came out of nowhere, so a total of 4 cop cars around us. They all had thier hands on their guns and told my friend to get out, since he was driving. A lady cop, the one who was following us, told my friend that she knew we were racing, because "our car smelt like shit and because of the HID headlights", my friend tottally denied and said we got lost and some crazy street racers cut us off so we slammed on our brakes, so that's why the car smelt like that (We agreed on a story when pulling into the lot). They kept on trying to get him to admit to it, but he didnt. While I was sitting in the pasenger side seat, I heard the cops talking to each other, there conversation went "Are you sure we pulled over the right car!?" "They were going so damn fast, I couldnt catch up and couldnt tell!". All in all they couldnt prove it was us so they let us off.. crazy night...

My thoughts exactly! SL500s are monsters on the highway! There is no way in hell you could even hope to keep up with him in a stock 330xi. :embarrasm

It is the street, hp/weight doesn't tell the whole story or give a definitive answer to the outcome. I might have thrown a flag if he stomped the 350Z in an auto 330.

if you say the sl500 would burn a 330...u probably have never drivin it....for its hp rating it is really slow.... i don't know if it would be the same story for a 330xi...because back when i had the rental from the dealer i raced an sl500 and we were dead even up to third gear and i started pulling on him...

my friend owns a modded 330 coupe, and has raced an sl500. His car is much faster than a stock 330 and he still lost. those v8 mercedes just don't slow down once they're going.

Ahhh 135 in a loner car. Props for that alone!

yea the SL500 is definitely faster than the 330. I have raced a 330 and beat it by about half a car taking things from 0-80. If we would have gone farther i would have continued to pull on him. I work at a mercedes dealership and the SL500 is not slow at all. I've taken them back and forth to get gas and once on a recon job and that car would eat a 330 and my car from any speed.

It could have been the one of the older sl500s. Those arent really that fast. Overall, sounds like a fun night.

yea, unless it was an older one i simpy can believe it. I would even put money on that engine in the S500 beating a 330.

by older do you mean the last gen? cause the previous, more boxy style sl500s still had a 300hp v8 and they were monsters on the highway.

somethings off. I race my cousins modded 330ci all the time, and he doesn't keep up with me, but i get spanked by the new and old sl500's. I would think the 330ci would be faster since it's lighter and because of his mods.

SL500's are not FAST. Sure, they're not slow, but remember, don't get it confused with the SL55. Someone always does.
