We just took delivery of my wife's new Sport Wagon and I'm having a hard time finding a good "permanent" place to mount it. The real problem I'm having is that there is very little tint at the top of the window and the radar detector can be seen plain as day from the outside. I don't want anyone with sticky fingers taking the V1 and leaving a broken window behind.
The most logical solution would be to always remove the detector but remember, this is my wife driving, it won't happen! I did purchase the remote display and I'll be installing it in the sunglass slot just above the ashtray. If it didn't leave a fully functional V1 ready for the taking I wouldn't be so concerned.
Any suggestions? What have you done in your E46's?
Thanks all for your time,
Sheridan

First, here is something that may be really interesting to you. I've signed up to get it. It will work with all E46's .... this is ultimate stealth. I have no affiliation or vested interest -- but, really cool I think and easier to see than putting the remote display down at a 90 degree angle from you.

Second, the way I am putting the V1 is by making a box for it out of plywood. I am leaving the front and rear open and putting it right by the rear window. It is elevated slightly and it is carpeted in analogous colored carpeting of the interior. I placed paper and colored it black over the front and rear (it does not affect how the v1 functions ... if you are an engineer, you'll know what I mean). So, it looks stock .. but, very functional and out of the way.
Third, I am on the GB for the Lidatek LE-30, in fact, I'm running it conjunctively with the M5 board. We have 140 people so far on it. Thus, with laser protection and V1, I doubt I can be protected anymore than I will be ...
although, watch, I get a ticket for 62 in a 55 mph zone like I got 2 months ago ...lol

NoSoup,
That is a really cool product and you've got me thinking. Our E46 is the wagon so it would be put really far back in the car. I wonder what this does to the front radar sensitivity? Our car has the black interior and I'm thinking that once the windows are tinted the detector unit will blend in even more. Unfortunately the ceiling is grey (WTF) so the V1 stands out. I would love to see Valentine produce a stealth unit. The K40 in my car is so well hidden (not quite as nice as the Stealth One) and would be impossible to steal unless you had the whole car for some time. I could try and work on a more permanent mount but there are times we would remove it to put in another car.
I think the sunglass slot is a great idea. I will install it to the left side and the door will still close. You won't even need the door open for the radar to function but you could open it if you need to see the arrows or mute it.
