I just thought I would come on here and let you guys know that if your not willing to spend a lot of money to clean your leather (I.E. Leatherique) then try out a product called Saddle soap. A friend of mine told me about it becuase my Vadars look like crap. They had stains from the previous owners suede(sp) jacket and years of wear from not being maintained. I was sure that the only way to fix the seats would be to re-dye them. Well after using Saddle soap, I still have to re-dye them, but all the dirt that I couldn't get out with other leather treatments came out and all that remains are the suede stains and spots were the leather had worn down to the suede. They look ten times better. If my seats were just extremely dirty, they would look brand new now. A 16 oz bottle cost only 7 bucks at a local western wear store. I only used probably 6oz for the entire car. Just a heads up for a cheaper alternative.

Do NOT use sattle soap on your M nappa leather.

My chemistry background is weak but this was a glycerine liquid lather. Not sure at all, but is there a difference between glycerine and an alkaline? Or is glycerine an alkaline? Either way it worked for now, but if it is damaging then, no don't use it.

Just did some research, Glycerine is an alkaline. Anything with base like properties, i.e. soap is an alkaline. Basically almost anyting that is or acts like soap is an alkaline. What cleaners are neutral on the Ph scale? If none why wouldn't any cleaner, over time, end up being damaging to the leather? I would imagine an alkaline like saddle soap would be better for your leather than an acid. No big deal as the answers to these questions don't really change the outcome that I experienced.

Well i think we both know there are much better products out there now to clean and condition leather. I'm not going to argue over the use of sattle soap but I do dissagree with it's use on M nappa leather or just about any other leather. You should check out Connolly and spinneybeck products. I believe spinneybeck has just reformulated it's product into a all in one cleaner and conditioner. It's available for $26 at www.leatherz.com . Connolly leather cleaner and hide care are what Rolls Royce, Jaguar, and Ferrari use on their leather. It's available at www.autogeek.net in a kit that includes cleaner, conditioner, MF applicator, and MF towel for $39.95. Bimmerforum members also get a 10% discount there. The only down side to the Connolly products is they need to be stored in a cool place where the spinneybeck doesn't.

I'm not trying to be argumentive, I have a habit of breaking down subjects that I don't know much about into small questions and answers like this. Thats all I was doing. As for now it doesn't matter which product I use, becuase I am going to re-dye the seats when the weather gets warmer. I appreciate the suggestions though.
