I also have a Camaro SS story. I posted this previously on roadfly but thought I'd post here. My car is, as you probably guessed, an IR E46 M3. The only mods are a set of Hamann HM2 19" wheels and S-03's.

I was driving home from my g/f's house last week. She was coming, too but we were in separate cars. It was about 12 or so at night I think. We were pulling off the freeway when I noticed a car get right on my tail. I was pretty much ignoring it but he started to pull around as we came up to a red light, moving very aggressively. I knew he wanted to play. :D I was in the left lane, my g/f was in the middle, and the car pulled into the right lane, zooming across traffic. Once he gets there he starts revving his engine. It was a newer silver Camaro SS with the big hood scoop and a HUGE wing, loud exhaust, etc. Anyway, you never know what you're going to get with one of these modded Camaros, so I was thinking my g/f might see me lose one.

Anyway, the light turned and we both hit it. Both of us had good launches except he got a slight jump on me. It didnt matter though. I pulled past him by the time I hit second and kept pulling through 3rd before I let off. By the time I hit 100 I was about 5 car lengths ahead of him. I slowed to turn off and he got right behind me and tailed me for a few minutes through a parking lot before finally going his own way. I think I crushed his ego.

The funny thing is that the next day I was talking to a friend who said the same guy did the exact same thing to him...provoked a race at the same light. My friend was in a turbo/NOS civic with 386rwhp and also dusted the guy. I guess it wasn't that guy's week!

LOL, it's one thing to get beaten by a BMW M3 but by a Civic... granted a majorly muscled-up version. I bet he's thinking he should get something a little faster. :)

How much did it cost your Civic friend to get power like that?

Surprisingly not very expensive, all things considered. He has a turbo kit and nitrous, exhaust, roll cage and coilovers and is pretty much stripped. He did a lot of the installation work himself and I think he said it cost him a little more than $6000 for the parts. I'm not 100% sure about that number so I'll ask him for the specifics. On the down side, the car is sucks to drive, is really loud, and sounds like crap. He has run a 13.1 with it though...not sure how good it is on a track but it really in a straight line.

You know what I have found that a Few of the SS Camaro, Firebird TA, and Vette owners have never owned a really fast car and when they get one of these cars they think that their car is one of the fastest on the street.
Some of the other owners have respect and know the performance about other car so they are not asses when they come up for a race they will ask you.

I know a guy that had a 2000 C5 6 Speed and he thought the world of it. He has never been in my car and I did not say anything to him what I have done. After he got his car he came by a few months later and took me for a ride. The ride is a lot better than the ealry 90 vette a day and night difference in improvement. He was so exicted he showed me how it can launch hard in 1st and also from a stand still in 2nd and I commented that is pretty good. I did not want to burst his bubble.
I have to comment the car could corner with a higher G than my car or any stock M it sticked to the road in a mild sweeping corner. He had his dsc on and he was pushing it I had to hold on Ha Ha..

Imola werent you scared why the hell is he folowwing you around in a parking lot ?

im just curious, why the hell does honda use front wheel drive, It seeems like such a crazy system. No traction, doesnt handle as well, i really dont see any advantages to it. If civics were rear wheel drive they would be awesome power/weight ratio beasts. just curious.

Well, two big reasons Honda (and other car companies) use front wheel drive are for economics and packaging.

Economics - with a FWD car, there are a lot less parts than with a RWD car. The transmission is essentially the transmission and the differential. Whereas a RWD car has a transmission, driveshaft, differential, etc. More parts = more money.

Packaging - you don't have to worry about fitting all those additional parts as mentioned above. That's why Alec Ignossis (sp?) was considered such a genious when he created the original Mini. You can have a much flatter floor in the passenger compartment when you don't have to worry about driveshafts, differentials, etc. And that flatter floor directly translates into more room for people and stuff.

All that being said, Honda does themselves know that RWD is ultimately superior for a sporting vehicle. When they designed the S2000, one of the first specs was that it must be RWD...

Yeah if you guys happen to get a bad driver you stand a pretty fair chance against an LS1. Your 1/4 times are not far off from our stock for stock. But it kills me when yall start talking about easily walking an LS1 or god phorbid the dreaded "hey i killed a ZO6 yesterday wiht 200 witnesses". Yeah bad drivers of ZO6s do exist just like LS1s Vipers and even E46 M3s. I cant wait to get lined up next to one of you guys. Every time i have the person driving was totally uninterested....oh well. Nice kill by the way.
