View Full Version : //M Roadster vs. 350Z, Not even close!

My wife and I decide to go for a little cruise last night to get a cup of coffee. On the way home we hit a red light and a new 350 pulls up next to me. I give him the "hey, how you doing" nod, and get this, he laughs, and gives me a rev. My wife looks at me, and much like a hockey coach before a bench clearer, gives me the nod! :icon23: Light turns green and we're off. First gear I've got about a cl, second starting to pull 2 3 cl's, and third I'm a good 6 cl's in front. Now, as luck would have it, we get another light to do it all over again. As we're stopped at the light he all of a sudden has a different tune, "Wow, I had no idea how quick those are, that's a Z3, right?" Before I could say a word my wife gives him "ah yeah, somthing like that."
Green light and we're off again, this time I have a perfect launch and run throught the gears like Mario and by 100mph the little Z is merely a spec on the horizon.
Anyway, it was fun. I like being confused with the Z3's, made him feel real stupid for spending all that money on a dog!
Thanks,
Dave

You got mods?

Those Z's aren't exacly slow...

But good kill none the less.

You are right, they are not slow. Sorry, if that's the impression I gave. As for mods, all I have right now is the Conforti intake. I'm currently in the market for a SC.
Thanks,

Nice kill! Good work on giving him an education. I still have yet to race one. Is that the second one you've taken down?

I knew he thought your car was a Z when I read that he laughed at you. I've never seen an //M Roadster before, and if I didn't go out of my way to learn about cars I wouldn't even know they existed. Chances are he's never heard of one, or at least doesn't know how to recognize one.

Got what he deserved I guess. Nice kill.

Z,
Yep, it's the second one! The first guy was much more cordial.
Hugo,
My wife laughed at him, even better! :D

Nobody expects the Spanish inquisition!

He got what he deserved because he was being an ass. I try not to disrespect anyone, it can be hard and I don't always succede. Fart can civics with wings or hoopties with 24" rims are so hard not to laugh at.

The best way to recognize an //M Roadster is to get a good look at its ass! Which is usually what most will get the best look at! :D

Hugo,
Are you still heading down to Florida this Summer?

Yes, yes! Having the woman heckling him is so fun. I always make sure to take my ponytail down for situations like this. :D

Very nice kill. I have yet to hear any stories with a new 350z owner being a nice guy. On any board ive been on, they are all cocky arrogant bastards, who look down at everyone else.

O and btw, give your wife a high five from me for laughing at the unsuspecting bastard.

Not that I havent been around long enough, I just havent seen them post about their Z's so I didnt know they owned one. This is a BMW board, so its not like I would be expecting them to own 350z's.

Nice kill, but i have to think he gave up fairly quick if you pulled that much on him. My girl has 350Z and i think its a drivers race, with the edge going to the Z as the speeds increase, atleast thats what my result was against an Mroadster. That guy had to screw up somewhere, or forgot to turn off the traction control and once he bogged in 2nd he gave up.

I have a Z3 3.0, and lost by 1-2 car lengths to an older M Roadster (didn't get going that fast though). I would think that the 350Z would be significantly faster than that.

Your Z3 3.0 is closer to an S52 M Roadster than you think.

When my Z3 3.0 was bone stock, I ran a 13.89 at 99.5 mph. Slapped on some drag radials, ran a 13.65 at 99.1 mph.

Same track, a few weeks later, I had a 98 M Roadster loaner, ran a 13.71 at 101.1 mph.

That's pretty close. The Z3 3.0 is about 200 lbs lighter than the S52 Roadster, and only down about 15 hp...

If the S52 took him out that bad, what damage would an S54 do?

An S54 would be a good matchup against a blown or very highly modified 350Z. The S54 M Roadster/Coupe run like 108-109mph traps BONE STOCK. That pull hard as hell, which is why I almost sold my car for one a couple months ago...test drive one and you'll see what I mean :)

lol, no offense, but am I the only one seeing the irony here? I enjoy quite a few people who post here, and I am a car enthusiast. I try and understand, and appreciate, any persons love for cars. I can't see how someone could like neon, big wings, etc, but hey, they are a car enthusiast. I'll take the most confused car enthusiast over someone who thinks a car is just a way to get from point a to point b. It's a variation of a line I always said to the cruiser guys when I used to ride sportbikes, "Anyone on two wheels is better than someone in a cage". The irony comment was that a lot of outsiders tend to think BMW owners, at least on the net, are some of the most elitist folk. I think there are a lot of really great folks here, so I disagree that there is a large percentage of them here, BUT I still see quite a few threads a day here that remind me where those comments are founded.

As for the kill. From my experience, this is my take on it. The first run he probably wasn't expecting much from you, so he didn't go full tilt until to late, or he was just a poor driver (very well might be the case). The second run, it sounds like it wasn't a run, rather he decided not to run again. If you really were as far ahead as you said, it sounds like you were the only one racing perhaps.

Please explain the irony to me. I never ONCE said that BMW owners are of any way elite, hell I think more then half of this board thinks that because they own a bimmer they are better then everyone else. I simply stated something that I have noticed. I havent seen many people post something nice about 350z owners. And considering that this is a bmw site, I wouldnt really expect 350z owners to be surfing these boards(im not saying you shouldnt, its just not something I would expect).

The irony was that what you said about your experience (what you've heard and seen) with 350z drivers leads you to believe that almost all of us are arrogant and that we look down on everyone. I said it was ironic because people say that about BMW owners more than probably any other brand. Clarifying, I am not saying that, but it is something you'll hear a lot in most car circles, even here from those who aren't like that. Not a jab, or putting anyone down, just making a comment.

I also have to disagree, at least what I've seen on the kill stories section, about the experiences most people have reported about 350z drivers. I'd say that the kills with 350s involved, the majority say "he was pretty cool and gave respect where due..."etc, along those lines. I will agree that there seems to be a large number of not-so-great 350z drivers, but I've delved into this topic before. I think the people who post on forums like us are traditionally car nuts, and therefore probably better drivers than most drivers of our cars. I don't even comment about my BMW kills on here, or my more interesting kills for that matter, because most would not believe them. There are a lot of bad drivers in the real world, and I consider myself to be really good, so it makes for some stories that don't seem possible to most people.

I have officially helped derail this thread, sorry Dave.

I do not restrict myself to only BMW and 350Z websites. I am a fan of many cars. Unfortunately I can't afford to have every car that I am a fan of in my garage. I would imagine there are people here who also visit other car sites. I have and always will be a fan of BMW automobiles. I would like to think there is a car with an M on it in my future. I also own a 01 325i.

Rob and Jay, nothing to apologize for, both of you stated things very well, and show why I respect you guys here.

And Rob has some really good times (ET's) in his 350Z, especially considering he's in hot and humid Texas...

Rob, you can post your BMW kills here, if you want. I can't guarantee that some morons won't try to muck it up, but overall, you should feel free to share them here...

As for him not racing me! Haaa As I wrote, on the first light he was the one feeling froggy, and at the second light he gave me the "one more time finger", not to be confused with the "screw you" finger! :D I don't know, maybe he is supposed to be faster than me, but that night, he wasn't!
Thanks,

Good race in that case.

Dave, there is no point in posting BMW kills of mine really, because they're never that exciting. Maybe if I had some mods. They are just "I got a great launch, he didn't, I won" rinse and repeat. The only thing I will say from recent experiences is that E46 M3 convertibles (with the top up, or without) are not nearly as fast as their hard top counterparts, or their drivers are almost always not as good. That's the only thing I've really wanted to comment on in the kills section lately.

Anyhow, I've been here a while Dave, I can take the heat. I don't expect to always be greeted warmly at a car forum of a brand I don't own, but am just a fan, so no sweat.
