View Full Version : Embarrased a Galant on the way home today.
jcsomerset 03-23-2004, 07:00 PM I just had too - I just had too - Not the newest buck-toothed body style, but the one just before - the good looking one.
Been under the weather lately, and can't do much of anything - Played Golf on saturday and it was tough to get through that.
Anyway - Going home - pretty, sunny day - temp just cracking 70.. driving with the sunroof open - music blaring. I'm just wasting traffic as I drive home..Get to an open spot and out of my blind spot a black car comes up really fast into traffic- I get on it a little - but there's a car so I can't do nothing.
He passes on the right (which is the inside middle lane) and heads to the right middle lane for a clearing. I quickly follow.
he hits the far right lane and is stuck for a second - I stay on pace in my lane and get around a bit of traffic - he is still there and pulls in right on my arse... I-20 E splits off to the right here and the lane we're in is the option lane - go straight on 59 or turn right onto 20. The car in front of me stays straight but clears the car in the left middle lane - I get over and wait - I'm in 4th and we're doing just shy of 80. I pull out enough for him to get through.
We clear traffic and I wait for him to hit it - then I hit 3rd and just dusted him like he was in a yugo or something. Several buslengths very quickly. I come out of 4th at about 120 and coast back down. He's somewhere back there. Giving it that number if I had to bet.
as MY exit approaches - I see him coming up fast - I don't even bother to down shift i just go WOT in 5th and he never gets past my back bumper. as I start to pull away - I wave at him through the sunroof. He got off 1 exit later and I got off at mine (one further than him)
Yes - he was no match at all - but every now and then - some punk thinks he's got a car better than the old E24/S38 and I've got to make certain he doesn't EVER think he beat an M6. It's like a law of physics or something - For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. (him = fast. Me = faster) it's a simple equation really- :weedsmili
STL Avus M3 03-23-2004, 07:11 PM You always seem to have some dufus trying to race you. Thankfully, or unfortunately (depending on my mood), I never seem to have this trouble. Either they see that your car is older and think they can beat or you just have more racers down south.
By the way, how big is your engine? Is it the same all the E28 M5? Something like 3.5 liters?
I really like your car. Since I joined the BMW CCA and have been reading Roundel, I always check the classified for E28 M5s and M6s. Maybe when I am done with school and have a house with a garage to store it.
jcsomerset 03-23-2004, 07:23 PM I seem to draw more than my share.. Every now and then someone with a really nice car will play chase with me. But most of the folks W/ the E46 M3's etc are older, more sedate in their driving. (except for that one in Liberty park a month or so ago; He was nuts)
Yepper - it's a 3.5 - same as the E28 M5 and also the E34 M5 (although the E34 had about 50-60 more horsies from the factory and was 3.7 I think)
I'm chipped, with a lightweight crank hub; K and N drop in and that's it besides rims/tires but I dont count those as Go fast mods. Those are just so I don't have to buy Michelin 415 TRX's at like 250 a pop. (Ok I like the way they look too)
Besides - I like to exercise my car - It likes it.
BabyM 03-23-2004, 08:13 PM I like to exercise my car - It likes it.
Oh yeah, the BabyM likes the rough treatment too!
I've actually been hard up for cars to run with lately. On the way home today a Camaro (non-z28) with a spot of bondo on a rear fender gunned it when I drew even with him. I figured what the hell and went past my exit. Poor guy didn't make it past the first hard curve on the interstate before I left him
Sometimes you have to lower your standards to get what you need --but even then there's no guarantee you'll get it!
Glad you had a fun run!
jcsomerset 03-23-2004, 10:21 PM Those camaros are a lot like Mustangs - they can be fast in a straight line - but try to turn those boats at speed and look out.
The last newer (99+) mustang I drove though did handle fairly well. Still had the bumpy butt tho- (you go over a bump and WHAM! on tha arse) :blueball
I like the big blue ball-
slocar 03-23-2004, 10:36 PM nice kill man and a real nice m6
slickav 03-23-2004, 10:56 PM Good ;)
You put the wannabe e36 in his place :buttrock
liquidtiger720 03-23-2004, 11:10 PM another one for the older bmW's!
SilverStreak 03-24-2004, 08:42 AM Josie likes it rough? Good to know... :D
Nice kill, John! :buttrock
BabyM 03-24-2004, 09:48 AM
That would be the car, she's my BabyM! (Yes, it's corny, I name my personal possessions) No comment on what I like though! :devillook

I hear you on that one. I wish I still lived in BR so I could abuse people on I-10 and 110 downtown.
Carter

You're a girl who likes cars and drag racing, you like it rough, trust me... :D

Amen - some of those curves on I-10 through and around the CDB are fun as hell - I used to live in NO (well harahan and Metairie) - but the city level streets eat suspension for lunch.
My favorite was the aerhart expressway. It was like the autobahn in the afternoon- :blueball
Dave - :icon23: :D
BabyM 03-24-2004, 02:42 PM You're a girl who likes cars and drag racing, you like it rough, trust me... :D
Damn, I didn't think I was so transparent! :stickoutt
JC --yeah avoiding the surface streets in the city is essential if you want any life out of your suspension --I'll have to check out the expressway don't think I've ever been on it.
I do time my runs between NO and BR though. 1 hour from a friend's driveway on the Lakeshore to my driveway in Spanishtown...only on cloudy days though, don't want to get taken down by the airplane cops on the spillway!
SilverStreak 03-24-2004, 02:43 PM I can read 'em like a children's book... :D
$150FC 03-24-2004, 03:32 PM Hah, don't put "children's book" and "rough sex" in the same thought, SS :P
Nice kill, JC. I have heard that the V6 Galants are not the slowest things in the world...

Tell me about it.
jcsomerset 03-24-2004, 04:20 PM I would make the trip about every 2 weeks or so to BR from NO for the lawfirm I worked for. Never had any issues on the spillway in my car dong 80-90 (of course, I was in the '93 buick regal - a car cops look at and think - "grandpa" while I still had it I considered getting a bumpersticker that said "let me tell you about my grandkids." I don't even have kids..
An hour was about my best time too. the 12 mile bridge on I-10 is the funnest... between No and BR.
babyM - do you go to LSU? I've got several friends that are alum's
And as far as lowering the standards goes - I've beer goggled before, but never again- Friends dont' let friends Beer goggle.
BabyM 03-24-2004, 05:56 PM Well, let's say I'm paying tuition...The dissertation isn't turned in yet but I started a post-doc at the PBRC (part of LSU in fact) so I'm all about the university. :embarrasm
Beer goggling can be dangerous...ever seen the Phunk Junkeez? They have a funny song about it called 'me an yer girl' --I generally stay away from that sort of behavior.....my m.o. is to hold out for feats of strength and/or skill ;)

Hmm - Perhaps I should plan that second weekend trip down to JAzzfest.. :icon23: :icon23: YOu gonna make it over to JF?
Pick on somebody your own size. :D This is kind of like mike tyson beating up al franken.
SilverStreak 03-25-2004, 01:51 PM I'd pay to see Mike Tyson beat up Al Franken... :laugh
BabyM 03-25-2004, 01:59 PM [QUOTE=jcsomerset YOu gonna make it over to JF?[/QUOTE]
Probably, at least one weekend. I encourage anyone who likes live music to come to Jazz Fest (regardless of the company :) ) It's a cultural spectacle!
(I will also be up for the DE at Barber in July --I'm looking forward to meeting some more Bf.c members there!)
Oh, and yeah, I'd buy a ticket to the Tyson/Franken showdown!
SilverStreak 03-25-2004, 02:05 PM When is JazzFest, and where?
M Roady 03-25-2004, 02:16 PM I'd pay to see Mike Tyson beat up Al Franken... :laugh
You think Prince shows sell out quick! :clockwise
BabyM 03-25-2004, 03:03 PM When is JazzFest, and where?
New Orleans!
Weekends of 4/23 and 4/30
http://www.nojazzfest.com
This year the big names are Harry Connick Jr., Santana, Lenny Kravitz, not Prince, there are literally hundreds of shows going on, and you just pick the ones you want to go to. Check out the website, you should be able to get the info you need. A songwriter such as yourself would enjoy Jazzfest very much!
SilverStreak 03-25-2004, 03:08 PM They have something similar in Philly every year, which is good, but done on a smaller scale, I'm sure. I'm committed to some plans 4/24, but I seriously wonder if I could the following weekend.... I miss NO. I haven't been back there since the Honeymoon in 98...
jcsomerset 03-25-2004, 06:38 PM JAzz fest is a hella good time- Been to it a few times.. Last time down for JF was 2000 when Dave matthews and Paul Simon played. I saw Paul and Keb Mo at one of the night shows. I may drive down on a lark on the second weekend, but am planning on going to BOnnaroo this year again - so I may save my duckets for the bonnaroo shows. what is bonnaroo? www.bonnaroo.com should tell you all you want to know- and I take an RV..
